My wife gave birth to our baby boy at 1:15am on Saturday, Aug 2. Consequently, anyone who's waiting for a response to one of the 20+ private messages in my forum inbox, well... please be patient. :o

My wife and I are home now, and she's doing just fine. Unfortunately, our son suffered from a bacterial infection, which caused a fever and several episodes where he stopped breathing, so he was quickly transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. His condition is somewhat common and is treatable, but the course of treatment takes at least 7-14 days. He's been recovering nicely so far, so we hope to bring him home soon.

His name is Kyle Alexander Pavlina. My wife wouldn't let me name him Dweep. ;)

Double congrats Steve, 1) because he's an august baby, which I am, and 2) His first two initials are K. A. and my first two initials are also K.A.!!!

Now we're closer than ever before to getting everyone's birthday's in August! BTW my second niece is due sometime this month as well... leaving us with 999,999,999,998 more to go before we get to my goal of everyone's birthday in august!

Now, Steve, first what you shall remember, is that if he got infection it does not mean that you shall update your antivirus software. He also does not need upgrades, with children it will happen quite naturally :)

I had to register to give say congrats! Where do we get the cigars anyway? Perhaps since you couldn't name your new child Dweep, you can name your next game or game character Kyle? :D

Congratulations to the whole family! :D

I have to agree with Keith, it is best to be born in August and have a name that starts with K... So it is 999,999,999,997 and counting .. :)

I hope you plan to continue offering full support for version 1.0 instead of just forcing everyone to upgrade :)

I heard there are countries that have law against calling babies certain names... (http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/news/50703_sn_superman.html)

Congrats Steve (and wife),

My wife wouldn't agree to naming our daughter Zelda (which I was quite serious about).. women just don't understand :)

Congrats Steve!! Its early in the morning and I too got fooled by the Child 2.0 title (I was like ooo a new game?)
Maybe you and your wife can comprimise... Dweep makes a good middle name :)
Hmmm... I guess I better reconsider naming my first child Werlin then, eh?

I'm flattered to see that even though we don't know each other, you chose to name your child after me ;) jk!

I was named after a relative apparently, I'm curious as to how you came up with Kyle?

Congratulations!

Congratulations, Steve! And don't worry about the problems you're having with Kyle, it'll all work out. As everyone knows, Child 2.0 is a little buggy but it has a great feature set.

Congratulations Steve.

I too was born in August, and I think that makes 999,999,998. My fiance and I have already decided on names for our kids. While she would probably not find it funny, and I'm definately not bringing it up to her until it is too late, if we have a boy and a girl, our initials will all pretty much stand for something except mine.

MST - mine. Got nothing here, except maybe the game Myst.
ALT - Her name. Look at your keyboard. :)
GT - Game Thoughts
INT - An integer of course.

I honestly can't wait till its too late to tell her. I just hope it isn't grounds for divorce. :) Good thing she's got a good sense of humor.

Congrats Steve! For a second there I was about to go to the main page to see what the new game is. :) My birthday is in August too hehe. :D Oh and speaking of initials that stand for something, mine are IO, obviously Input/Output. ;)

Kyle had a web site since before he was born, as did his big sister Emily, but it's mainly just for the family photos.

Here are some pictures of me & Kyle in the NICU, just taken last night:

The baby looks very nice and cute! But who is the man on the photo? Is that Dweep :D

What a cute child! :)

But, what is that swelling in his right wrist in photo 4? That looks so painful. :( I hope Kyle can leave the NICU soon.

Dexterity
08-06-2003, 06:12 PM
What looks like swelling is just the fat on his arm being pushed up because the rest of his arm is taped down for the IV. I visited him an hour ago, and the tape is gone now. He's off the oxygen too (no more tube in his nose), and he's mostly being monitored to make sure symptoms don't return. He's out of the NICU and moved to his own private room in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). If all goes well he'll be home in about five days.

Of all the babies there, Kyle is the lowest priority case. There are lots of premature infants in the NICU, some of which have been there for over a month.

Kyle looks like a very healthy baby, and you look like a very proud father. Nice photos Steve! :)
