I'm sitting here at a friend's laptop in the oldskool area of ASM2003 in Helsinki, Finland (http://www.assembly.org), after having just gotten back from a detour to "boozembly" (unofficial party in the woods outside ;) ) and then watching the oldskool gfx compo (c64, snes, oric).

Been checking out a few seminars too of varying quality, one of the better featuring our very own Kai-Peter talking about his experience in the indie gamedev business and showing a case study of his game Space Station Manager. Was very interesting and quite enlightening! Kai, I would've said hi you afterwards but the gamedev compo was just about to start on bigscreen :) Some great entries btw, be sure to check out Truck Dismount, Netpuck and some of the other wacky entries too, they're all free to download here (http://asm03.assembly.org/Compos/Combined/Gamedev_entries?cl=en).. some great inspiration!

Having a great time here at the party.. I hope this post wasn't too coherent or useless to everyone :)
Maybe I'll see some of you here @ ASM2K4!

Anyone else of you guys around here?

Just back from the event myself. Nice to hear that there were people from the forum present, too bad you didn't have time to say a quick hello. I will definetly be there next year as well.. :)

For those who are unaware, Assembly is a demo event with roughly 4000+ participants. There is also a seminar series running for more "pro" participants, with about 20 presentations relating to demos, games and similar subjects. The theme for this year was ARTtech, combining art and technology. I'll post a link to my presentation (about 50 minutes) once the recordings are available on their site.

For one second I thought the topic was ARTech (www.artech.com.uy), my day job, and wondered what had artificial intelligence applied to databases to do with games :)

The games that the assembly 2003 participants have put out are awesome. Stair Dismount and Truck Dismount blow me away. It's nice to see that Truck Dismount won this year. Frontal Assualt is also... very interesting...
