'srite, just to collect your musical tastes in one big juicy thread, here's a special thread just to post your Bands of the Moment in.
I'll kick off by saying
The Darkness (yes, really!)
International Pony
Ween (check out www.weenradio.com)
Cas :)
At the moment I mostly listen to anime music: .hack//SIGN, Chobits, GitS Stand Alone Complex...
And also stuff like Deep Forest, Delerium, Craig Armstrong, Goldfrapp, Massive Attack, Jean-Michel Jarre.
If you like these too I'd recommend you to buy Jogeir Liljedahl's album "The Wanderer" too :-)

Changes all the time ... depending on how obedient polygons and pixels are on that day!
I tend to scan through live365 till something makes my b**ls tingle! :)
I have to admit, Hip-Hop seems to be doing it for me of late. Especially the real evil greasy stuff.

Metallica is my favorite. Currently listening to their new album - St. Anger. I also like Nighwish (just amazing vocals combined with great music!), Offspring. The choice depends on my mood. And ofcourse I listen to some russian music but I doubt you've heard of those bands :)

Music greatly depends on my mood, sometimes it will be Opera, sometimes Classical, film scores, or Jazz. Of modern groups, I am particularly partial toa bit of Goldfrapp, Portishead or Air.

funnily enough i like rock and really evil metal like napalm-death to get awake in the morning or when driving in the car :) someone mentioned Tool, they are just great, their shows are awesome.
and there's so much other cool music like hip hop, electronic music, jazz and blues and even country music. john lee hooker, johnny cash, the doors, ...
i can't listen to music when coding though. i need silence when coding.

I generally listen to classical music while I'm working (a lot of Mahler, Bruckner, Shostakovich and Nielsen).
Whenever I need to learn new music for an orchestra (I play the cello), I get a recording and play it over and over until I know it by heart. That saves a lot of work practicing!

Although I can cope with most anything I hear, being a hobby musician (been playing drums for 25 years...except not so much the last 4 years) I find it a bit difficult to really respect any band that doesn't display a bit of technical talent in their songwriting and performance. With that thought in mind, I tend to favor a lot of progressive rock/metal bands and 70s rock bands. Rush, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Journey, Yes, Boston, Kansas. I also have a handful of solo musicians I enjoy listening to: Dave Weckl, Chick Corea, Eric Johnson, Stuart Hamm, Geddy Lee. My one oddball favorite (one that doesn't really fit in with everything else I listen to) is the Beyond the Minds Eye soundtrack by Jan Hammer.

Let's not forget the Cardiacs (http://www.cardiacs.com/) and Primus (http://www.primussucks.com) too :) Which are great for those who want to give their brains a workout whilst working.

If you like Primus then you have to check out The Residents. They are the band that Primus wants to be as funny and original. But only their stuff from the 70-ies,the rest sucks.
