View Full Version : Fav Game Related News and/or Programming Site!
Hey all,
What's your favorite / most frequented game related news and/or programming site? (Excluding this one of course ;) )
I visit a handful regularly, but with the billions of web pages out there, I know the are many great ones that I just don't have the time or luck to track down.
Just one or two per person would be great (go for quality not quantity :) )
I'll get the ball rolling:
Game News:
www.gamespot.com
Game Programming:
www.flipcode.com
www.gamedev.net
Thanks alot,
David

Other than Flipcode and Gamedev here's a few others...
http://www.eurogamer.net/
The best gaming site I know for reference, its screen shots are large and easy to get at. Also, last year they were the offical ECTS news site.
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/
This site is the business watching side of Eurogamer. (Can be good for industry news).
http://www.theregister.co.uk
This is the best technology site I know. This site can be great for watching industry developments like graphics card companies, console companies, electronics generally, phone companies, PDA companies etc.. and any computing news generally. Its very useful (and they have a great sense of humor and they can say some very cutting things a times :)

I used to visit http://www.shugashack.com every day but over the last 2 years it's become increasingly irrelevant to me.
There's http://www.arstechnica.com who have a game section now.
But by and large I don't read about games any more. I spend my whole time searching for indie games to download, so I now check out http://www.diygames.com and http://www.gametunnel.com and http://www.indiegamer.com all the time.

flipcode.com and gamedev.net and gamasutra.com
I also check out lots of blogs of shareware devs. www.asharewarelife.com (goodsols) is neat.

Since I started DIY Games I've found that I almost never go to gaming news sites anymore. Maybe it's because the games don't really interest me much anymore, who knows. Anyway, here's the sites I do visit from time to time:
GameDaily (http://gamedaily.com/)
Frictionless Insight (http://frictionlessinsight.com/)
GameIndustry.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/index.php)
Fat Babies (http://www.fatbabies.com)
GamerDad (http://www.gamerdad.com)

For retail game news I subscribe to GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com). For indie news, the aforementioned DIY Games (http://www.diygames.com) and Indie gamer (http://www.indiegamer.com). For game development, I'll occassionally hit Gamedev.net (http://www.gamedev.net), Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com), or Flipcode (http://www.flipcode.com). I used to frequent Garage Games (http://www.garagegames.com) but not so much recently. The discussion over there is very central to 3D games with Torque. Although I bought a Torque license it's not my focus at this point. However, I have been thinking of returning and making more active use of the .plan system. I subscribe to a few mailing lists including SDL (http://www.libsdl.org), Bob Pendleton's Game Programmer (http://www.topica.com/lists/gameprogrammer) list, and Davis Ray Sickmon's Sweng-gamedev (http://lists.midnightryder.com/listinfo.cgi/sweng-gamedev-midnightryder.com) and Game Design (http://lists.midnightryder.com/listinfo.cgi/gamedesign-midnightryder.com) lists.
