Today the new subforums have been created, so please do your best to create new threads in the appropriate subforums.
All of the moderators will temporarily have moderation privileges on every forum, so that we can collectively move the old threads (starting with the active ones) into the best-matching subforums.
The thread numbers should remain unchanged, so old threads links will still work. All of the currently active threads should be moved by the end of the day.
This forum (Indie Business) has inherited all the old posts from the original indie forum. So any topics that fit this forum will remain here.

Wow, that was strange: I started out in "Indie Game Developer Forums" and when I next looked, I was in the "Indie Business" forum. :)
YAY! :D
I love the new layout!

I hate this new layout
(ie now you have to check several categories instead one...)
There's a bug , when you go to a subcategory and then press the "back" button I land in old forum without subcategories?!?

Most likely your browser is still caching the old site. Try hitting refresh when you see the old page w/o the subcategories.

Yeah, I don't think there were enough posts to begin with to seperate everything into different categories. It was much easier just checking one message board instead of several. Now less people will probably see your posts and it will probably take longer for a response. :(

Mirek, Mirek! tzk, tzk...
As a fellow eastern-european guy may I join Mirek to bash the new layout?
In this part of the world we like to hit and bash everything that is new and non conventional. :)
Well, okay it is sad, but could be fun sometimes.

I think it became a necessity to have subforums. It takes time to get used to, but I think we will all like it this way in the future.

There is a feeling of being overwhelmed by the new forums, however, I think that once you have browsed them and become more familiar it will become second nature.
The new system should, in fact, stimulate more discussion in the sub forums where users interested in that topic will frequent.

What you'll have instead is most frequent visits to 1 or 2 particular forums, and the other ones will be dead, in which case eventually you'll cut out all the dead forums.

Excellent!
A big wish of luck to the new moderators. May this be the beginning of an even better resource for independent game creators! Thank you to everyone of you! :D

Picking the right forum subjects can help prevent this problem, which I agree is common on other boards where the subforums are too narrow, like "OpenGL programming." The new forums here are very broad, and all are relevant to most indies. This morning I see new posts in every forum. The forum split was largely modeled around the kind of posts that were already being made, so if the same pattern continues, all of the new forums should see decent traffic. I'd be very surprised if any of the new forums died simply because all are highly relevant to indies. You may not do OpenGL programming, but you're likely to be involved in some form of game development, for instance.
A similar split was done in the ASP's private newsgroups a while back, and it has worked out nicely too. The key to preventing dead forums is to choose popular and relevant forum subjects.
I don't think there's too much danger of people ignoring the forum subjects and posting in just one forum. The mods and I would move off-topic posts to the appropriate forums, and most people should want to post in the most relevant forum in order to get the best replies.
I realized (too late) that the thread (http://www.dexterity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1278) I started belongs in a different forum (indie life instead of indie business). The move thread command only works for admins. I would appreciate it if one of the moderators could move it to the appropriate forum, or if I'm missing the obvious, please let me know how to do it.
Cheers!
Carl

I tend to agree with those that say subdividing the forum was a bad idea. It's not totally bad but maybe the problem is, there's just too many categories. Having a "new posts" is helpful but still annoying to use. There should only be two categories. Indie Business and Everything Else. Anyway that's just my two cents.
Is it just me or has traffic here dwindled to a fraction of it's past? I don't see much "life" here. Maybe it's just my imagination. I hope traffic picks up. I kinda miss the old forum.

The average number of posts per day has been fairly stable since the forum split occurred. Last time I checked it was around 90 posts per day. But some weeks are slower than others... the volume of posts really depends on the nature of the active discussions.

I see. thanks for the clear up. Well it's good news that the # of posts are still the same. I just want this forum to continue to grow and prosper.
