Not really sure what board this question would go on, so forgive me if I chose wrong.

I was planning on adding a neat little time based easter egg to my game that would decorate it for chrismas, easter, and halloween. Thinking this was a great idea to myself I decided to let my girlfriend in on this idea... She quickly brought it to my attention that there are billions of people who don't celebrate these holidays. Which is true and since I'm using the internet as my source of distrabution, I guess there would be quite a bit of people who download my games that do not celebrate the same holiday that my game will begin to celebrate every now and then. I'd love to add this feature because I'd find it quite amusing myself... But is my girlfriend right? Should I not do it or is there simply another way?

I put a bunch of those type of Easter eggs in The Incredible Machine - halloween, christmas, st. pats, valentines day, etc. - and eventually saw messages where people had seem them and enjoyed them. I also put a hidden box that you could click on on the 'about window' that would activate all of them on any day of the year.

I wasn't able to put an Easter 'easter egg' in there though because Easter was on a different date each year and I was rushing to just get the game finished in September for Christmas.

Yes, that's right. E.g. in germany we don't celebrate halloween, but we all know it (from tv shows). So everyone who can watch the simpsons or something similar knows these holidays and got used to it.

I would be really pissed if I won't be able to see a halloween easter egg, because I'm living in a country were it isn't celebrated (I mention that just in case you thought about a "locale"-filter) :>

In my game Charlie II something special can happen at Easter and Christmas. I think most people will know that it is Christmas or Easter. If not, what's wrong with a little surprise?

I wasn't able to put an Easter 'easter egg' in there though because Easter was on a different date each year and I was rushing to just get the game finished in September for Christmas. You can calculate the date of Easter by using the algorithm of Oudin, see http://astro.nmsu.edu/~lhuber/leaphist.html for a pseudo code implementation.

Alright then, I take it by the response that it is perfectly fine to celebrate these holidays at a target audience even if others do not celebrate it. Thanks for the response.
