Hello, this is the game I was working on before. The other day I stumbled on it and tried it out. To my surprise it was quite entertaining. Could you guys try it out and tell me what you think? What you liked about it, what you didn't like. And most importantly, does this game have a chance?

The URL is : http://www.geocities.com/mman76dev/Jit.html?1062640855477

Size: 1.74MB

This is the evaluation version I used to send to a publisher.

Thanks.

Well the basic concepts of the game are there, but to sell this you need to fix so many things about the game.

Some problems I noticed after playing the tutorial and part of a level.

-Graphics clipping problems everywhere, or moreso the lack of it. When anything gets near the edge of the screen it either disappears completely (like a starfish) or get pulled with the screen (the pentagon shaped thing you need to collect).

-Mouse interface on the main menu, keyboard interface on game menus? Be consistent or better yet use both.

-But really this game needs better graphics, sound, and lots and lots of polish. It has an amateur look to it and needs a more professional look to sell.

How about a screenshot, or at least what kind of game it is?

">Sorry, this site is temporarily unavailable!"

Sorry about that, it happens from time to time when a lot of people visit it and download stuff. Its a free service so I don't have much bandwidth.

"But really this game needs better graphics, sound, and lots and lots of polish. It has an amateur look to it and needs a more professional look to sell."

I've been told that a lot. Could you point out any particular part of the game that needs to be polished the most? For example, do I need better graphics in the menu? or the actual game? Sounds I'm still working on, and hopefully some music.

" How about a screenshot, or at least what kind of game it is?"

I've posted screenshots before, but have deleted them since. The game is basically revolved around a dolphin character named Jitrex or Jit for short. His quest is to save his underwater sea world by placing correct jems into their correct holding cells(long story, but you can read it once in the game). It's a lot like a side scroller, along the way you encounter many enemies and challenges. Such as living predators, or non-living challenges such as arrows, depth charges, etc..

"> Unable to initialize DirectX 7"

Hmm, that message can only come up when setting the display mode. The game sets the display to a deafult 800x600, 16bit color. The only thing that can give you an error is if you have set anything less than 16bit colors- which is kind of unbelievable. What display mode do you have set?

800x600x32

After I'd run your game other DX games (=Walls of Jericho) failed to start. I rebooted... WoJ worked again... Ok. Started your game again... same error msg... started WoJ again to check if it's reproducable, but WoJ worked as it should.

It says failed to load control PictureClip from picclp32.ocx. The file is right there in its directory. Anyhow I don't see the point of using something like ye olde visual basic PictureClip control in a game, why? There are much better ways to do animation. You also need to replace the default VB icon of the executable. As it didn't run I can't give you any more suggestions.

That is wierd. I used that for the purpose of testing it more than anything. But I guess I'll take it out as others may experience this problem.

Updated version comming soon.

Minuses:
* Mouse is visible in the game, but it does nothing.
* Sometimes game stops responding to a mouse. (I could not click on a button)
* It was difficult to understand what I can shoot and what I can't.
* What should player do, when he/she pushes a "star" to one side of the sea?
* Game needs alot of polishing... especialy overal graphics.

Pluses:
* Very bottom of the sea looks better comparing to everything else.
* I assume, this is your first game, so as your first steps, this game is quite OK, but you need to do alot more to make this game Realy interesting.

Hints:
* I saw similar game on Sega Genesis. It was called "Echo the dolphin" if I recall it well. You should check it out on some emulator site for gameplay hints.

This was a design decision and not an overlooked bug, when you do that you must restart the level. I was trying to make the game more challenging this way. It is sort of like in Fitznik when you push rocks, you have to think where to push them because sometimes you push them into a spot and can't use them anymore or something like that.

What I should have done is probably explain that somewhere in the tutorial.

About the graphics, is there a specific area that needs the most work? Do you mean the pictures in general or the clipping problems that someone mentioned before? I'm just not in a position to pay an artist and a musician. So I have to get by with what I can do on my very own.

Just a small correction ProNinja: The Sega game is Ecco the Dolphin, not Echo :)
