Where do you guys usually come up with your best idea's?

I usually get them when I'm thinking about something completly differant, especially when I am watching a movie or something on tv, it pays to allways have a sketchpad ready and handy. I also get many idea's just as I am about to fall asleep.

I steal from many sources. Then I modify them beyond recognition and eventually come up with a new blend. ;)

Well you could probably argue that "stealing" ideas and drawing connection to other ideas to create an improved Idea is what human understanding is based and pretty unavoidable at some level. Ever watch the show "connections"?

The innovation comes by making new connections to existing ideas. Did Ford come up with the idea of a Wheel, engine or even the car? nope. He just saw that using an assembly line in another business ( I think it was a meat processing plant) worked pretty well and made the connection that it would solve a problem in his industry. That one connection and a lot of hard work catapulted Ford to where it is today.

But to answer your question, one of the best "think" times for me is going on long drives where there isn't a computer in front of you and you are either just by yourself or with someone that wants to BS with you about the kind of ideas you are interested in. Making idea connections
