View Full Version : Feedback request for Tech Demo?

For some time now, I've been working on a tech demo using my (in development) game engine (which I intend to use to create a freeware RPG).

If any of you guys have the time, I'd appreciate if you could have a look at it (screenshot and download link here):

It is not a game though, so be prepared that you won't be able to play it... just observe and move the camera.

It requires DirectX9, and takes a bit of time to start up. While it is loading it just shows a grey screen, and only responds to the minimize button (just be patient :-) )
I'm mostly interested in if it works at all on other peoples machines, and what framerate they get, but of course, any feedback is greatly appreciated

Many thanks

[edit] added mention of DirectX9 requirement and the long startup time

doesn't seem to work here on my p3 866 Geforec4 win2000 DX9.

it just shows a grey window and doesn't react on anything other than the minimize button.

i tried both DX9 and software renderer option.

crashed.

From what I got, youre using DX 9.0, so either notify that it needs it as a requirment or do a checkup to see what version of DX is installed.

or better, do both.

Worked fine on my P4 2.0 GHz with GForce 4, when maximized I got about 60 - 100 fps depending on the location and zoom.

Thanks for the feedback so far...

Yes, it requires DirectX9, I forgot to mention that, but it is added now.

Also, it does take some time to start up, and while it is loading, it shows only a grey screen and only responds to minimize... I guess I should mention that as well...

sorry, didn't wait that long and thought it was a bug.

works fine now! ~50 fps when maximized

Yeah, it sounded like that was the case :)

My fault for not having a loading screen I guess...

Got 80-90 fps, which is ridiculously slow for this kind of graphics on a Radeon 9800Pro. (other specs: AthlonXP 1800+, 512MB)

And why the fixed perspectives when the world is made out of polygons anyway?

Yeah, it's not supposed to be fast... yet :D There's all sorts of optimizations that should be done, but that's the next step

The ground and particlesystems are made out of polygons, the characters, trees and house are prerendered sprites, so it needs the fixed perspectives.

But the main reason for it is that I like the isometric perspective :D

Thanks to everyone for trying it out... Now at least I know that it works on other peoples machines as well :)
