I don't know if anyone around here has tried to post a message in one of Microsoft Newsgroup, but unless you give a false e-mail address for your identification, I don't recommand it.
Saturday, I was having some problems with VC++ 6.0 on Window XP so I decided to post a message on 2 of Microsoft's newsgroup. I gave my real address because in the past, that's how I received a response.
Within hours, I started to receive a Massive amount of false Microsoft mail and Spam mail (up to 90 !!! in less than 24 hours).
So important advice, don't give out your e-mail address to Microsoft since they apparently can't keep their own mailing list secure
This is really frustrating because it's also the e-mail address I'm using has a reference for almost everything else.
I'm trying to figure out now if there's a way to block these mail and automatically delete them when they arrive in my account. Anyone has any clue ??

False Microsoft mail? Sure that isn't just that virus that's going around? (which could have then targeted you if anyone on the group had it)
I have a filter set to dump anything that says it's from Microsoft straight to my trash at the moment, since it's just virus programs.

That's what I'm reffering to by false Microsoft e-mails (virus).
I was made aware of this a month ago but to receive such a massive amount of mail like that just because I posted a message on a Microsoft Newsgroup (which then led to me receiving all this crap) is untolerable, especially because of company who pretend to anyone who wants to hear it that their system is secure.

For every online form I fill out, I use a unique email address at my domain - a catch-all will allow you to recieve them without creating a new email account for each form. That way you 1) know exactly which sites sell your info to spammers, and 2) can easily delete all spam at the server.
FYI, about 60% of the spam I recieve is at google@ - I signed up for their developer program a year or so back. I expected more from Google.

it has nothing to do with being a MS newsgroup, it could be alt.porn or alt.yellow.puppies, the result would be the same.
If one of the READERS is infected, as soon as that reader catches your email, you will unfortunally be a victim afterwards. I reckon some of the users were indeed infected and resulted in that.
Not Ms fault this time :)
And posting in newsgroups with a real email is a nono :) just make another account in your server (i like to call mine spam) and then make redirects to it (newsgroup@yourserver.com/ msn@yourserver.com/ siteIsignedfor@yourserver.com) and this way you can easily and quickly delete all the messages you get, but you can also find out from where the spam comes and be more careful next time.

hhmm.. what I don't understand is that the source of the e-mail is not a ligit one. Meaning that they come from a "false" e-mail address created only for this purpose.
As for using my real e-mail address.. hehe.. I learn the lesson. Last year it wasn't like that.. I've never seen so many people have so much spare time and think they're so "COOL" for creating spamware/virus/trojan like this.
The internet world is starting to be full of idiots :(.
