Hi,

Not being an artist and able to draw but using my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator i've found i can recreate that simple graphical style of the powerpuff girls cartoon.

What i wanted to know is that if i didn't copy an actual character could i use that same distinct style (proportions, big eyes etc)without being liable?

I'm worried they'd be instantly recognizable as powerpuff and i'd be legal hot water.

Yes, you can use any style but no the special character.
You can draw characters in "disney" style, but you cannot use Mickey Mouse. ;)

I think the trick to cribbing a style is to emphasize your differences from the original. Check out this Japanese PPG fansite:

In the pics section, you can see PPGized characters from anime and games. Same proportions and style, very different characters.
