I have been in the games industry for what seems like an eternity and have only recently gone back to small scale, independent game development.
I would just like to congratulate Steve Pavlina and Dexterity software for creating some great resources and facilities for indie game deleveopers. I hope I can contribute some of my experience on your forums, and I hope I can learn something too.

Welcome! I'm nuts about all 3 XCOM games. :) Especially XCOM 2 (one of my most favorite games of all time). But I see I'm not the only fan here. :D

We didn't actually have much to do with XCom2 - except for the fact that it used our code. MicroProse spent a whole year and a vast team of people on it, so it should have been better. XCom3 was the most disastrous and difficult development we ever undertook and its not an experience I wish to repeat.

Welcome!
I'm another industry veteran who's decided to scale back to the indie side of things. Did professional game development for six years, followed by doing security-related software. Now I am doing indie games on the side.
X-Com came out when I had just started as a game development professional, and it was a profound influence on me. It's held a place in my "top ten" list of all-time greatest games ever since. It's an absolute classic, and I can't wait to see what you'll be coming out with next!

Hi Julian, I've got a tenner with Rebelstar Raiders written on it...
Cas :)

I only have one copy of Rebelstar left. Do you have more than a tenner?

Hehe! I'm not resorting to a Spectrum emulator to play it ;) Knock up a modern one in Blitz for us.

I actually met Julian and Nick got their autographs.
OK actually it was their signature on a contract (I was doing product acquisition at VIE). Sadly I left soon after (as did most of the other development staff) and the publisher went into terminal decline.

Heh, yeah, thousands of years old worshipping instincts wake up slowly:)
Cool and original evaluation system you have for Laser Squad Nemesis. If I hadn`t more work than time, I might consider buying game. But right now...

I was late on the thread and reading what other people were posting, wondering if anyone would talk about LSN. Great game, and if I had more time I'd renew my subscription (I actually only let it run out because I had no time to play :()
So I finally get to (sort of) communicate with Julian Gollop. Welcome to the forums :D

Thanks everybody for a nice welcome. LSN is doing well, but not well enough - although we are constantly making improvements, which I suppose is one advantage for online games.

I can't wait to get a LSN sub, I'm just waiting for a friend of mine to give the go ahead so I can play against him :D
(I hate the whole concept of playing against people I don't know and will never meet)

Greetings, Julian!
It's really nice to see the designer of one of the best games ever made on these forums! :)
EDIT: Oops, I mean some of the best games ever made. :D

Of all the games designers I admire, I gotta' say you're at the top of the list. You've never made a duff game (although X-Com 3 wasn't the best, sadly) and I still regularly play through Magic & Mayhem from start to finish.
One of these days soon I'm gonna' get around to writing my homage to X-Com/Lords Of Chaos. Although if there are any lawyers reading, I never said that. Ho no, not at all.
