It's hard to find any real-world stats on developer sales, and from the few guys I've asked around the 'net so far, everyone has declined to talk about actual sales numbers, which I guess isn't too surprising. This forum seems to be filled with people who don't mind telling it how it really is, so... I thought I'd ask here ;)

Things that'd be great to know...

How many sales did you make in the first six months, assuming you've been going that long, for your best selling game? :) (if not, then for the first month would be great)

Info about your game would be also be great... maybe even a link!

How did you advertise your game? So, major websites you advertised on, etc.

How long has your game been out?

Anyway, what I'm looking to find out (in a round-about kind of way) is how well the average game is selling over the net, through strong advertising and weak, and by genre... etc etc. Any further information would be greatly appreciated, so some kind of a picture can be formed about selling games online. Feel free to go above and beyond the call of duty, and tell all about your sales ;) (so little ol' me can be informed).

Thanks all.

My figures so far: (released about a week into August)

Aug: 12 sales
Sept: 15 sales
Oct: 15 sales

Advertising - Download.com, and pestering a few fan sites dealing with anime-themed (and Princess Maker specifically) games to link to me. I am still only listed at a handful of other download sites. I'm slowly going through and adding to a few more at a time. I've also done a freeware game which, once the competition it's in concludes, will hopefully be listed at some places around the web to bring in interested traffic.

Website hits - Around 200 a day.

Conversion ratio - Utter crap.

On the plus side, I have no professional programming experience, did pretty much all my own art and music as well as code, and made my game using a practically-freeware tool. So if my one-girl-band can get sales, surely you can do better! :)

Funny... thanks for the stats :) (and the gentle encouragement)

My experience is more or less identical, figures and all, to papillon's. (Thread's around here somewhere - "September Sales")

Cas :)

Well, as you may have read our game has a very different layout than most of these others.

I posted in the thread in which I am seeking someone for a marketing idea (DCS needs a partner) our first year sales were over 1,000 units. (an okay distance over 1,000)
Advertising: Largescale press release and beta testing (3,000 beta testing users) and sponsorship on UtopiaTemple.

And since we are a web based game... site hits dont really mean anything (though if you are REALLY curious the answer is I think 5.7 million pages loaded in 6 months).
