This is not really indie related (or is it?). But I was wondering if you guys also collect PC related mags. I seem to have an obsession with this form of media. I subscribe to 3 gaming magazines and Dr.Dobbs. I would like to get 'Game developer' but its to expensive to ship it to me.
I have 100's of mags that I read regularly. How about you?

I buy pretty much every issue of Hyper.
It's an Australian Magazine that covers all platforms (Since I play 'em all :D ) and has a great sense of humour as well as very talented writers.

Ohhh, I love collecting magazines! Here's a more or less complete list of what I have sitting next to my computer, this doesn't include stuff I have in boxes or stashed in my desk at work, or in my car.(About two or three dozen magazines consisting mainly of Videogames & Computer Entertainment and assorted issues of Computer Gaming World from back in the day)
And i know what you mean about some of them being expensive. I get Game Developer for free but I pay about $135 a year for Develop Magazine (It's better than GD in my opinion, so it's worth it). The only light at the end of my tunnel of madness is that for the last couple months i've started getting MCV again, at no charge! It runs just under $400 a year here in the states since it's from England.(It's weekly by the way) At the moment I get MCV, Develop, Game Developer, Game Now, Newsweek, and U.S. News (ok, the last two aren't computer related, heh)

Nick, you can get gdmag for 100 bucks/y in europe.
Also, I get develop/mcv free in the uk, and to be honest, i dont know why i do, never signed for them but still get them, they just end up in the trash.
If anyone wants them (dont know what issues I have, some i save (aka leave somewhere around the house and never pick it up) and future ones, and it isnt very expensive to ship, ill send them.

I am subscribed to National Geographic; I get New Scientist, Wired when I come across it. I am thinking of subscribing to Game Developer. Other mags I read them up at Borders ;)

Wow, a 1990 magazine? My earliest pc game mag that I have now is PC POWER issue 1 (JAN '94). I had a few that were earlier than that but I had to ditch them when I moved country. I sold them (About 100) for a couple of bucks for the lot, I would pay a hundred now to get all those old ones back.
When I lived in the united states I subscribed to a 'trial' of gdmag (one mag) but even though I kept cancelling it (even after a phone call) they kept sending them. I didnt mind because it is A GREAT magazine, they must have liked me a lot ;)
Oh I have to plug our local South African gaming magazine, NAG (new age gaming).
As far as 'conventional' magazines I get Fortune.
I have every issue of Nintendo Power ever printed. I've been a subscriber since the first one with Super Mario 2 on the cover 1989 (possibly '88 ( I was in 6th grade)) 172 issues all together I think!
Also I have every issue of Next Generation except for issues #3 and #5.
Oh yeah, I guess this should be about development and not just bragging on Magazine Stats: Next Gen had several pieces over the years about "How to get started in the game industry" both as a commercial developer and as an indie. They also had some interesting psychological studies of how players react to controllers and interface, how online gaming changes the player demographics, and the touched the violence in games issue several times.
Chris Crawford wrote some brillant articles for Next Generation for about 6 months or so. I still think of these when designing games. I try to let the player be in control as much as possible, and concentrate on giving them lots of "verbs" or ways to interact with the game environment. It is about Interaction after all, that's what makes games special.

I currently subscribe to Game Developer Magazine and Dr. Dobbs Journal. Dr. Dobbs is so eclectic that I often question its usefulness, but I still subscribe to it for its occassional articles on graphics and other topics of interest to me. Game Developer is pretty good, although I often wish it were deeper in its presentation of technical articles.
Other magazines I've subscribed to include Nintendo Power, PC Magazine, Byte, and Boot/Maximum PC. It's a shame that Byte is no longer being printed. It was one of my favorites.
I have a few odd issues of other magazines such as PC World, PC Computing, Electronic Entertainment Monthly, and Computer Gaming World.
I get a kick out of looking at old computer magazines. I don't own any myself, but it's so much fun looking at articles about old technology such as the Commodore 64, the Commodore Amiga, the IBM PCjr, and many others. I get nostalgic thinking about the old days of computers and game development.
