So I was checking Crystal Wizard (game I did) at Download.com and discovered that somebody had given it this review:

"Loaded with spy ware"
Don't download... It's loaded with spyware.. Ad-aware found over 30 with this game

But there's nothing spyware at all in there! All the game demo does is install to a subdirectory..and that's it! No retrieving of info, no hard-drive writing while playing...no spyware! I ran Ad-Aware to see if the something was weird wih Ad-Aware, and it found nothing!

I read a post where somebody eariler had a review where they were accused of having spyware. Is somebody going around maliciously reviewing games?!?

I contacted Download.com... hopefully they'll remove that bullcrap.

i just checked and his name in that post is "Software Police", what else did you expect him to say? :)

just ignore these idiots, hopefully you have success with download.com removing the crap post. i think it was the thread about "phoning home" where some other game (Alien Flux?) was being accussed on download.com.

Yeh, it was me who got the spyware comment - except I had claims of virii as well :/

download.com's ratings truly are the most pointless feature I've ever seen - they should use the amazon scheme - ie x out of y people found this comment useful - then if less than say 50% of people agree, the comments scores shouldn't be totalled

Hmmm... Something wrong with that, don't you think? If I don't agree with a simple majority my opinion doesn't count? I think it fair to see that 9/10 disagree with me, but at least let my opinion be heard! This is hypothetical mind you, I usually don't dissent:)

When you contactact download.com request that they adjust the overall rating when they take the review out. Because in my experience they simply remove the review but the ratings remain.

I hate those download.com reviews. With my last game, the first review was all glowing praise and full marks. The second review was a vicious attack on me for writing a phony review of my own game and zero marks. But it wasn't me, it was just some stranger who genuinely loved the game to bits.

Sigh. You can't win, huh?

I complained to download.com but I really don't think they give a rat's posterior. They should either remove the reviews or police them properly. After all, people pay good money to be listed there.

People posting negative and untruthful comments either to gain a competitive edge or because they're childish. I agree with Philip, a reviewer review feature like Amazon's would filter out the much of the crappola.
