Hello

We've been approached by a company to see if we're interested in implementing their navigational software in our products.

From what I can gather it's a small browser plugin that would be installed when you install one of our games. Then when a user just types 'games', into their browser, rather that it complaining about no http://games being available it looks up the games keyword with their server and redirects to a page. Other companies pay for each keyword.

I guess it's a way of getting their software on more machines.

Have any of you had any experience with this company or anything similar? Would it be a good idea? Any other comments?

thanks

scott

This is as bad or worse than spyware. Run away and don't look back. Just because they are marketing it as "navigational software" doesn't mean it's NOT malware. No user wants this on their system.

It's the same stuff that's used at www.nstorm.com if that helps.

If you want to build a long term business, stay far away from this stuff.

Speaking as someone who plays indie games, I do not download games with anything 'extra' ever. No cute 'navigational aids', no 'comet cursors', nothing. And if games sneak this crap onto my system in the install without telling me, I not only never buy from that company again, but I tell everyone I know who plays indie games to also never buy from them again.

Malware/Adware/etc are probably the biggest threat to independent software development right now. The more people who ship software with this crap that clogs up user's systems, the worse we all look and the more hesistant any potential customer will be to buy from any of us in the future.
