A poll to figure out what percentage of you indies actively doing business has business insurance...

I voted No, but that isn't entirely true. I work from home and my computers are insured along with my other possesions (against theft, etc) even though I use them for business purposes. My company doesn't have liability insurance, because that's extremely expensive to get when you're selling to US customers :-)

I am specifically asking for business insurance. The kind that will help you if you get in trouble with a customer's lawyers. I am not sure if your home insurance or your computer insurance is going to save you if one of your customers sues you for something and wins. In fact, I have home insurance myself and I know that's not one of the things I am covered for. :)

I know business insurance is expensive. I personally don't have it. I am considering it though. I started this poll and see what other people are doing about it.

As of right now, two people have voted yes. Any comments about the decision to get it?

I didn't vote because I don't have a business, and I didn't want to mess up the results.

We have (well, our corporation has) business insurance primarily because one of the big companies we do contract game work for requires it -- all their subcontractors must have a minimal level of general business liability coverage. It also covers stuff like copyright infringement (if someone were to sue us), records/data recovery, business equipment (above and beyond what homeowner's insurance covers), if anything happens to business equipment when traveling, etc. There's more, but I'd have to read through the whole humongous policy...:rolleyes:

But that is interesting to know that some businesses require it in order to work with them. I wonder how often that occurs out there.
