Does anyone know of a good webhost with a price around $10.00 per month or less, but has a good limit on bandwidth for the downloads of my demos and full version games?

I'd also like it to be able to host a domain name like www.MyNameHere.com

Thanks :)

Self-serving ad: www.lizardnetwork.com :D

Here, I made you a promo code for added 10GB bandwidth on professional package: VODEX3

This would give you 26GB/month total bandwidth for $11.95/month. Having your own domain is not only not a problem, but also a requirement :) If you need to register a place like www.godaddy.com will do it cheap. Code expires Jan 25, please don't spread it outside of Dexterity. Only works on Professional Package. If anyone is interested in reseller, I could give some deals on those too. We have an excellent track record of keeping our sites up, which means you can have faith that when you post your download link somewhere, it will work.

We used flexihostings ( http://www.flexihostings.net/home/main.php )

There FX ADvance package is $9.99 a month and we haven't had any problems with them at all. For $9.99 you get 500 MB of space and 25 gig of bandwidth.

We got 1 years worth of hosting, a domain name and used a coupon ( rikmerle ) to get 40% off. Total price was $64.83

We've only really used the site proper over the last month or so and haven't had any problems.

Do you know if that host takes money orders or checks? Because I am very interested in the FX ADVANCE option. Also, how do you find your download speed?

And thanks for the tip :)

I went with http://www.1and1.com - they're doing a promotion which makes it free for 3 years, but only 5 gig per month for bandwidth. The promotion is only going on for another 5 days i think.

I recommend P4HOST (http://www.p4host.com) . For $8.99 a month you get 1000 MB of disk space and 40 GB of bandwidth.

and finally... :D

www.ipowerweb.com - 40GB/month traffic for 7.95$

We have two accounts with them and didn't count any serious problems in last 9 months while we are online. Backward we were using something near 45GB traffic in our most active months but didn't met any negative reaction from them - they are very flexible to needs of their customers.

I'm on iPowerWeb too, but I would have picked differently in hindsight. Support has been really spotty. While I've never had to wait very long for an answer, they often send copy-and-paste responses without paying much attention to what you say.

They have a few big problems with their web stats--at least on my server. The web stats usually won't update for me. You have to press a button and wait fifteen or twenty minutes for the stat software to make a report from your access logs. During busier times when there is a greater load on your server, it is effectively impossible to update the web stats. I've opened two support incidents. The second one was escalated after I pleaded. In the end, they said, "sorry, that's just how it works". The web report also has shown inaccuracies that make me doubt its value as a decision-making tool. For instance, one time it reported that my bandwidth usage through HTTP requests was 10 times higher than it actually was. My solution is to download the entire access log in raw format and feed it into Webalyzer. I don't know how much longer I can do this however, since after 5 months, I've got a 60mb file to download, and it's only going to get bigger. That I should have to do this is tremendously stupid.

FTP logins stopped working last week, and I had to recreate my accounts to make it work again. My current issue is that sending e-mail through PHP scripts is sporadically failing. In five months, I've had something like 10 support issues. And I'm not the type to complain about things before I try to fix them myself. About a third of the issues were handled quickly and competently, and the rest involved me getting irritated and volleying way too many messages with support.

After my paid year runs out, I'll be looking for a new webhosting provider.

EDIT: And one more thing to add while I'm out to crucify iPW. You get a lot of transfer bandwidth for the money, sure. But I've had to limit my game submissions to other sites because my site will slow to a crawl when traffic goes above 1GB a day. Either they are throttling or the server I'm on has a hard time keeping up with traffic. On the server I am on, it would be difficult to handle more than 30GB of transfers, because the slowness users run into on high bandwidth days simply drives them away.

www.aplus.net

Hands down the best I have ever had.

$9.95/month, 200mb storage, UNLIMITED bandwidth (this is true)
Plus 24/7 support avaliable by phone, email, or direct online chat.

Give it a try.

Is aplus.net the host you are using for weapon studios?

Also for anyone else who knows the answer to this:

Since aplus.net is on a shared bandwidth (file transfer) for each account, doesn't that mean it would be slower file transfer since everyone is sharing from the same place? Because I heard a lot of warning to not purchase from companies that claim to have "unlimited" bandwidth transfer because they will cap you off on your speed if you are taking a lot of bandwidth from other users on the same server. So it may not be worth it after all???

erikh2000: damn, I was looking forward to ipowerweb, they looked like they had everything I needed. Does anyone else have different experience with this host then erikh2000 had? Are they really that bad? (expecially what he said about the slow crawl after 1GB download transfer per day).

Yeah, it really is too bad, because they offer a lot for the price. I may be having worse luck than other people because I happen to be on a bad server. WildSnake (Andy) said he's done okay with them. I would also be interested to hear other people's experience with iPW.

May be I can agree with erikh2000 on SOME support issues.
Three months ago I also had received the answer in copy-paste manner from their service.
So, I was a little bit loud in change in my second request.
But that was obviously some concrete person who probably already was fired from the company.
At least all my last requests were answered in very timely and concrete manner (and in weekends as well!)
I didn't notice any crawl in traffic for our servers even when we had BigDownloadDays from download.com (something near 5MB/day three-four days in row). But that could really depend from your neighbours on the server.

Anyway, next week we are updating up to dedicated server at IPowerWeb.

Everything else is up to your decision Mickey. I'm really in trouble if they'll be bad for you as they are for erikh2000.

Good luck with your choice,

Sirrus

I get a great tranfer rate on weapon studios - usually 75 - 100 k plus/sec (on dsl of course) so thats not really the case.
Plus probably about 70 - 80000 downloads (3MB each) and have not seen any kind of capping (still get great transfer rate)

So I have no complaints with them, definately the best host I have had.
Very little downtime also.
