Here in europe some companies are making a lot of money by providing ring tones for cell phones. There are also a lot of games available for purchase. Is there a market for this stuff in the US,too?
I wonder what i takes to sell a cell phone game. Do you need some kind of license from hardware companies, which produce the handy? Can it be done indie, like our shareware efforts?

if you do a search you should find some posts related to this, anyway, if you aren't a big company, most likely you will have to have someone (usually the network provider or a big portal) selling your games. So basically you are moving to a publisher kind of deal where you will get somewhere between 10-20%. Taking in account the average game sells at 3 (at least here)bucks you will be making at around 30-60cents per game sold. I read somewhere that the average cell phone game sells around 500-1000 units until the next game comes along, but I can't find the source.

This means you will have to be picked up by a network which is hard.

I have a few friends that do cell phone games as indies and neither of them have had the luck to get enough money to cover the minimal expenses.

But then again, many cell games are smaller in scope and easier to make, you may strike lucky.
