Hey guys,
I am looking to create a pseudo division of Weapon Studios when I launch my next title because it is family themed, mass market. I want to seperate the image into two parts - Weapon Studios as the main developer of more mature titles, and 'Secret Weapon Studios' to be the front for all ages entertainment.
Heres the problem.
What I planned to do was use a subdomain, so it would rest on 'secret.weaponstudios.com' and when you visited www.weaponstudios.com you would have the option for which site you wanted to visit.
www.secretweaponstudios.com is already taken and run by a web hoster. Will I have any trouble using this name? And it just so happens they live in Boston as well.
Any comments appreciated...
Thanks.

I dunno, but "weapon" in a company name would turn me away from thinking it has anything to do with family oriented content? Might just be me, but I would think twice and just register a more family friendly company name.

Hmm, actually I plan on doing something very similiar in the near future. My wife has an idea for a puzzle game, so I wanted to break away from BRZGames, and create a new, familiy friendly brand. I think I'm going to register a new domain name though, so I can keep them both completely separate as to not 'offend' any potential customers.

ya, you really should get come feedback from your target audience ( the people who have the money in thier purse that buys that game for thier family) and ask them if "weapon" makes them feel good about departing with that cash.
Then again "holdinghandsinlovingbond.com" is a bit revolting :)

It is an interesting delimia how you present your new site ( name aside)
Perhaps instead of a Choose-a-site page, maybe not letting the family site ever really know about the weapon site is a good plan. ( with the dope farmer and stuff) .
However, you could promote the family site from the weapons site.
That way you get the potential traffic from the adult side, yet you don't get offended folks from the family side.
Kinda like a two way mirror.

Of course, this could be read as:
"holding hand sin loving bond", kind of like one of those porn sites that has every slang name for a body part in its title.
This is how I read it when I first looked at it, and I'm sure this is a great insight into my personality. :)

In response to the word "weapon" being in a family oriented name...
The name is "Secret Weapon" which from the logo will be something very kid-like...for example, a turtle with a rocket strapped to his back (not like a killing machine, more as he is the secret weapon - ie plane) or toys, etc.
In any case, the point is that I do not want to incur two hosting costs, so a subdomain would be the most cost effective solution considering I plan to go through numerous 3rd party publishers and focus less on own site sales.
Still interested in others comments.
