Thank goodness. I have found a truly logical, mathematical book that relates to game development. It's been around for years, apparently, but nobody honestly ever told me about it. The copyright is dated from 1965, and yet this book actually encompasses the mathematics behind... get ready... action games.

At least what you and I would call action games. ;)

The book: Differential Games, A Mathematical Theory with Applications to Warfare and Pursuit, Control and Optimization.

The author: Rufus Isaacs, 1914 - present.

The book concerns a lot of example game situations, mostly military examples, that I could actually relate to video games. You have missiles chasing helicopters. What is the best trajectory for the missile? the helicopter? You have two armies advancing toward each other in a protracted war of attrition.

The math is pretty basic, too. A little Greek never hurt anyone.

Look for the book on Google or Amazon. I'll see if I can find a link and put it here.
