I just updated Mistaril.com (http://www.mistaril.com) with a totally new design and technical structure. I would value any feedback on the site, especially from the view of closing sales .. :D

Looks much better than the previous version.

Some feedback though:

It seems that your web layout has too many elements (top left navigation path, mistaril logo, buy games, main menu, left side menu (sometimes), your account...)

1) I would suggest dropping the navigation path perhaps just over those big page headers ("Download Space Station Manager and build your own space station.." for example). or maybe the right place for navigation path is top righ corner under current date

2) you have some pages (like support) where you don't have the "left contex menu". I would still keep the same layout (so leave the left area blank white) in all pages so that in each page the main header starts from same position.

3) maybe that "your account could go with the main menu ("home", "support", "about"... "your account") or in some other place. current place is not right for it.

:)

Looks very nice and fairly clean (don't have time right now to really explore it though). One thing you should really get rid of is the double shadow on the tab text, it's distracting and unnecessary. The black outline on the text will suffice.

It looks nice. I'll echo Morphecy's comments, in that there should be some element that draws the eye more than others. Right now, I'm vaguely drawn to the bold, underlined "Space Station Manager" link, but it stands out only slightly more than other elements.

Site looks great, nice and clean, easy to find everything. Screen shots of the game look pretty and interesting. I'd say a good job all round.
Maybe expose the "Buy Games" button a little more, it took me a while to notice it.

Thank you for the feedback. Added some good ideas to my tweak list! :)

I played SSM this lunchtime. Its great! I was talking about it to a guy at work who produced Startopia ;)
Anyway, its great, but the textures are pretty low res. I'd like my space station to really look the business once its up and running, and the planet texture seemed really blocky.

Also it wasn't that intuitive how to attach stuff. It took me a while to realise that I need structural nodes, It needs more tooltips etc.
Sure theres a help screen, but who reads that? ;)
Also I added life support modules and it took me a while to realise that I also needed crew modules to get crew! Maybe a mouseover the crew button should bring up a tooltip telling you how to rectify the situation?
As for the website, its fine, as long as you can get people to download SSM you should do excellently, as its a great game.

NOTICE: reading this over I see it may be a bit blunt/Mr.Know-it-all-ish, forgive me, I'm just tired and can't say it with as much "sugar" as I'd like to :) It's all just my opinion/feelings, I hope they help :)

1) The home page is being waisted: so much of it is empty space.

All the white space above the menu bar (about 1/4 the screen size!), the thick blue menu bar, the white space just below the menu bar. Too much emptiness.

2) More space is given to signing up for the mailing list than for the game itself. What's being sold: the game or the mailing list?

3) I like the look of the actual space station manager page (save for all the wasted space as mentioned in #1).

Since you've only one product at the moment, I say make this page your home page, with a few tweaks:

Put more screen shots along the left edge of the screen, below the one that is already there: Having to scroll down a screen-and-a-half to see more screen shots is too far.

Put a smaller box about your mailing list below the system requirement box, having to scroll all the way to the bottom is too far.

Move the Features and benefits sections up to the top of the page (below the Order/Download buttons): this will make it easy for people to quickly see all the neat things the game has to offer.

Move the block of text that is currently below the order/download buttons down to where the bullets currently are: once you've hit them with the exciting screen shots and the quick-list of the games highlights (i.e. features and benefits) they will probably be more willing to scroll down to find more information.

HTH,
David

Again thanks for the feedback Cliff (added to my list of tutorial things) and David "Mr. Fluffy'n'Soft" DGuy (good points about the site. I have to test that part about the location of features).. :)

The first thing that strikes me with your home page is the amount of empty white space above the fold. The banner bar is three times the height it needs to be. I would like to see the logo and "your account" integrated horizontally with Buy Games and the button bar. That's more compact, and it brings the more of the page content above the fold, which is a good thing. I would also play around with replacing the white background under the button bar with some other shade of blue so the entire bar is visually separate and distinct from the rest of the page contents.

I like the news panel, and I've always thought your home page contents was simple, clean, and to the point. Not bad at all. I like it.

In Mozilla, there is a gap between panel/sidebar top and bottoms. For example, on the ssm page the left sidebar has a gap making the title section on top and the box below. Also, the requirements sidebar has a repeated section of image at the top and a slight piece below. I can provide a screenshot if it will help to identify it.

From the point of view of closing the sale, I would ordinarily say you might want to put the file size next to "FREE demo", but at 4 meg I'm not sure if that's a closing point or a scaring away point. It's probably worth testing.

I notice your button says "buy games" but next to SSM the text says "order full version." I guess this is another good thing worth testing. If you get people who are likely to buy the game without trying it first, then I like this emphasis. If you're primarily trying to rope in people who tried the demo, liked it, and are just milling around looking for a push to buy it, you might try creating a larger emphasis on buying SSM. How about a gigantic "Buy Space Station Manager Now For $24.95. No Risk To You! Click here." button? :) You might also try animating the buttons that you want your visitors to be drawn to. For example, with Buy Games you could flash 60 day guarantee every 4th frame. Just a thought. I'm trying to psyche myself up into updating my own website... :D
