I've noticed whenever I update my game and upload it I get a temporary spike in its number of hits. This spike only lasts a couple of days and then it returrns to normal. Can any one tell me what is going on when this happens?

People are downloading the updated version. Not sure what you are trying to find out :confused:

Check your logs for the referral sites. Might just be people grabbing the update. Probably a lot of links from warez sites, though.

I'm guessing that some of the download sites push you to the top of their lists when you update. At the moment I get about 50 hits on my demo a day. When I updated it I got 1100 hits over 3 days so I wasn't sure what was going on.

There are services you can use to be automtically notified when a webpage (or, possibly, file on the site) is updated, even without the owner of the site providing that service on purpose. So some people might be getting pinged that their bookmarked site had updated something and went to go check it out.

I don't think that would be the case with my game. The presentation is pretty poor at the moment and so far no one has bought it.

That's a good point. Perhaps the scripts running on those sites are doing something with the demo link more than once.

A somewhat funny derail. When checking my previous 24 hour logs I've noticed that a good number of visitors have come from some German gay porn sites. From time to time I notice some funny sites people come from (like goat.sx or whatever it was when it was up), but from what I can tell it's because of some masking util people use. But to have 1/3 of our daily visitors come from this place is just wacky.
