View Full Version : Dexterity Tour?

This is sort of an oddball question, but I think people might be curious to know the answer after I ask it.
Is Dexterity open to allowing Indie game developers who might happen to be in the area to swing by and visit the offices? Maybe get a tour?
I have no plans to be in CA in the near future, but it would be nice to know what Dexterities policy is on this... ;)

Hahaha. Never thought about doing that. Our office is only about 1100 square feet, so it's not exactly Disneyland. You wouldn't need a tour so much as to just stand in the center and spin around in a circle. :) So giving tours would probably be more of an interruption than a benefit.

Dan, why don't you just give in totally and admit that you are looking to follow and worship in The Steve Gaming Market + Life cult ;). I think the idea of selling Dexterity space games to Martians will be fundamental tenet of the cult based on a earlier post by The Steve :p
P.S Steve - When will your book be ready??? I can't function normally without having such a bible to all of life (please put more math formulas on how success is equated in substantial terms!)

Hehehe... It is true to a degree. Many developers follow what Steve does religiously. If I were Steve, I would be very flattered, and I am sure he is. And he does have a bunch of great ideas.
But being a follower will only get you so far. You need your own ideas too. If you just blindly copy, you won't be as successful as you can. Steve's ideas work great for Dexterity Software. But you're not Dexterity, you are XYZSoft. And for XYZSoft, different things might work better. What Steve is really saying is this, "Be an innovative, opportunistic thinker"... Not "do what I do".
I've gotten my share of ideas from Steve too. But I have also mixed in my own to suit my unique company and image. You should too. As an example, everyone now uses Steve's 60-Day guarantee- I do too. And after using it for a year now, I realized that only 1 in 1000 sales results in a dissatisfied customer. Now that's really amazing, so why not let your customers know about it? After all, people want to make a smart purchase that they know they will like, and that kind of a satisfaction rate let's them know that others like the games too. So right on my sales pages, I let the user know that over 99% of our customers are happy and satisfied. It works for me, but maybe not for you... You just have to test!
When I first started DirectX programming, Microsoft's biggest thing they told developers was, "Assume nothing, test everything." ....the same goes for marketing!

It's a bit off the topic, but it's kind of refreshing to see someone mention Microsoft in a post without ranting and raving. :)

Actually I didn't even decide to write the book. I was just checking to see if there was any interest in such a book. I've decided not to write one now, but I plan to take another look at the project in the future. Today it would be too big a burden unless I go into hybernation for a while. From the looks of how things are lining up for our winter and spring releases, I'll be kept plenty busy.
