Has anyone been to the SIC, and did they find it worthwhile? Many of the topics look interesting to me and I'm considering trying to set aside some cash to attend.

If your answer is "huh, whats that?", you can take a look at it here: http://www.sic.org/

Thanks for any thoughts,

Jeff

I spoke on a number of panels there in 2000 and 2001. It's a great networking experience and can give you a big motivational boost too. I think the people are a lot more interesting than the sessions though, especially once you've been in the business for a while. The sessions tend to be virtually the same topics year after year. If you've never attended, I highly recommend it. I just wish it was located closer to me (West Coast of USA).

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. I would certainly avail myself to networking opportunities. I spoke some at various security conferences in a previous life (DefCon, BlackHat, etc) and found that hanging out with and meeting people was far more enjoyable and I learned a ton more too. (when I wasn't playing blackjack and other nefarious things..)

Interestingly each conference I went to, I spent more time with people gambling, er "educated risk taking" than being anywhere near the conferences. :)

I've been the past two years, and will be there again this year. Like Steve, I find that talking to other developers is worth more than the actual sessions. But it is definitely worth going.

Whoah, flashback. I've still got my Defcon 1 t-shirt. Man, that was a long time ago!

Anyway, if everyone isn't already aware of it, I would really suggest going to the Independent Games Conference in Eugene, Or., every October. Great fun!

SIC is only a short drive away for me (I live in Syracuse), so I can attend this year for basically the cost of registration.

All the ASP talk lately has sparked my interest to join that as well. My problem is that I can't convince my wife to let me fork over the cash for both of them (at least not yet). As a shareware newbie, which would be most beneficial?

I'll be making the trip to the conference this year as well. Anyone interested in getting together, let me know. I lived in Rochester for 9 years or so. I mostly just know the south side of the city and generally avoided the northern parts of it. I know some halfway decent restaurants/bars in the Rochester area and some friends and I are getting together on Friday night I think. Email me or look for me there. I'm looking forward to seeing what the conference is like.

I will be at both the SIC and IGC...

Others I know for sure will be at the SIC:

Thomas from goodsol.com
Felix from cheekymonkeysoftware.com
Mike from ctspgames.com
Mike from blitwise.com
Mike (me!) from retro64.com

Those are the only game developers I know of that will be at the SIC...
Jim (DFG) had mentioned it, but I don't know if he's coming or not...
