Where exactly is everyone in this great city? And, would you like to get together with other (aspiring even) indie developers? I'm personally north of the river, in Padbury.

:)
I live right next to Curtin uni, in Bentley. I have only been here a few months, so I don't really know where anything is! :)

I guess if you know where the city is, there's a fairly convenient meeting place if anything gets organised :)

North of the river for me too, around the Duncraig area. Adam from PlowSoft is in Wanneroo, according to his website. Any other Perth indies besides Adam Payne, HunterSD, Reactor and 20thCenturyBoy?
Vote #2 for meeting in the city here. Doesn't have to be at a McDonalds, I just thought they'd be easy to find ;) Any suggested meeting places?
What sort of people would you like to see at a meetup? Are only game developers (and aspiring developers) invited, or are all Perth shareware developers welcome? There's a few more in Perth than just the ones here too.
Would anyone else be interested in convincing Peter Lewis (http://www.peter.com.au/) to come along sometime, if this becomes a regular thing? He's been a Perth shareware developer since 1990, and wrote the Anarchie / Interarchy FTP client for Mac. From their old website (http://web.archive.org/web/20010117003400/http://www.stairways.com/index.html):Formerly known as Anarchie, Interarchy is one of the most successful Macintosh shareware applications of all time with over 600,000 users. For two years running it has been a MacWorld Editors Choice Award finalist (the most prestigous Mac industry award available). If I'm getting carried away with ideas, be honest and let me know :)

The more the better, I think.

I agree... this all sounds good to me.
Duncraig SyneRyder... alright, you're almost next door to me ;) Anyway, I think all developers, of any sort (including aspiring) should be welcome to attend, although it might be wise to kick it off with game developers only, the first time out.
Another venue could be the northridge Dome. There's usually a few tables free, and (if need be) it'd appeal to young and old, unlike... ahem, Macdonalds.

I'm in Joondalup. I think a meetup is a great idea as I love to talk about 'puters, coding, games, and indie dev. Or anything else for that matter. I probably won't be able to make anything this month due to family issues but after that should be ok.

I wonder if any Indies live near me? Walla Walla WA ring any bells? :3

You mean WA stands for something other than Western Australia? ;)

Hey yeah, Dome sounds like a great idea. Much cooler atmosphere. Where's the Dome in Northbridge though? I'm not sure how to get to it, but I'm sure I've walked past it several times.
Good point on kicking off with just game devs... maybe it's best not to invite the whole of Perth until we've got to know each other a little and we're a bit organized.

Well, this week is busy for me, but is anyone still interested in meeting up, perhaps the week after?
This thread seems to have gone a little quiet :)
Dome is easy to find, if that becomes the 'place to meet'. Other than that, I'm not really sure how to describe where it is, because I'm not a Northbridge commoner.

Dome does sound good. I'll have to scout it out! :)

Looks like Dome is at 149 James Street in Northbridge, near the corner of Lake St. It's a short walk from the train station. Here's a map to the place, if the link works:

Any suggestions for preferred days / times?

I'm generally free all the time, except for Sundays, and most nights. So... saturday is the day that springs to mind as the most convenient.

Heh, that's the same times as me. I'm not usually awake in the mornings though, so afternoons / early evening suits me best. There were plenty of seats free at 3pm today, for instance.
Does a Saturday afternoon suit everyone? Around 2pm or 3pm perhaps?

Is anyone interested in this weekend, around midday saturday (the 22nd)? The venue would obviously be what was discussed above- at the Dome in Northbridge.

Sure, I should be able to make it then.

Sounds good to me, too.

Heh... I can see it now, going from table to table.
"Um, hello. Are you an indie developer?"
If it helps, I'm a pretty tall guy, so... that might narrow things down a bit if you're trying to find someone.
Anyone else have some recognosable feature?

I can't make this weekend as my parents are visiting from the UK and I need to make some effort to amuse them. Tsk! Maybe the next time.

I should still be able to make it though I've got a lot of things to do tomorrow, shopping etc... so I'll be the guy with a green & black backpack around somewhere.

Update: Met with SyneRyder, had a nice chat... wondered where the guy with the trainee millionaire shirt was, and generally learnt a lot. Will do again, for sure ;)

Just wanted to say the meetup went well, even though not everyone turned up. Shared a lot of good info, learned a lot too. It's good to get someone else's perspective on your ideas, especially someone who understands what you're talking about. Definitely worth doing again.
Any ideas when to meet next? We should organize a time when we can all meet before settling into a regular schedule, I'd guess. This Saturday, next Saturday, next month?

A heads-up for the real games developers in Perth (ie not me ;) ), there's already a group of game developers meeting up in Perth. Or at least, 12 people in Perth have signed up for it:
http://gamedev.meetup.com/875
Also, some ASP members are organizing meetups for shareware developers everywhere, which you can sign up for here:
