I saw that DIY reviewed my game.

I read it (http://www.diygames.com/index.php?p=539&more=1) very carefully and congrats to the reviewer, it is really a nice one.
The game issues reported are well-known. I need to add more variety on the commentary text :) it is planned on the 1.1 release that will be out next month.
The fact is that I wanted to finish the game to see if it could do well, and making such a game in only 2 months (including programming and graphics) is quite a record I believe.

Anyway, since it's selling so well even with those minor problems, I can't imagine how it will do with next update :D

Well this time I followed the rules of "master Steve" very carefully :D

1) get a game niche
2) do lot of testing and ask around people suggestions
3) don't release it until you think it's ready
4) and among all be determined on your goal :)

and also I think I've shown (I have finger crossed) that non-casual games can still sell well in the shareware market (cliffski do you hear me? )

Hehe :)
Well for sure I wouldn't have been able to make such a complex game with other languages in only 2 months (well luckily ptk uses C).
And the mac port was quick ;)

This reminds me of a review I read for an Indie game in which the "professional" reviewer made, to me, the most mind-numbingly, asinine suggestion (and I para-phrase): "It would be a much better game, if they made the small modification of allowing the game to be played in first-person instead of third-person view"

Small modification!?! There is a world (or more) of technical complexity between creating a 2D 3rd person view game vs a 3D 1st person view game, so for the reviewer to suggest it as if it's a feature they could add in a week-end or two shows the guy does not know what the hell he's talking about or a damn thing about how games are developed and should not be reviewing games!

Now, if was just some user review, like the often uselss kind you find on sites like download.com, it would be no big deal, but this review is displayed prominetly (its the only review, no user reviews allowed) on a very well known game site and is about quite a popular game!

Ahhh ... it's good to vent :)

Hang on... this is a 2D game you're talking about?!? And the reviewer was really THAT stupid?

Come on, let's have some details here... what game? What review site?

Hey Jack,

Can you give some info on the Mac vs PC market? Just stating what % of your sales go to the Mac would be very informatiive.

Please? :)

depends on game type, really!
on average, I'd say about 40-45% of sales are for Mac.
It's like a lottery really: a game that sells 10 copies pc, can sell 100 mac, and viceversa.
Since I use PTK (https://www.plimus.com/jsp/download_trial.jsp?contractId=1634217&referrer=rei1974) I don't care much because I can have both versions with same source code

Doh!

I just realize I posted my reply above to the WRONG THREAD! (I really should not post just before bed :)

It should have gone here (http://www.dexterity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3226)

Sorry, Jack_Norton, I did not mean to pollute your thread about your great news with my rant.

I'll move my post and replies to the intended thread
