Wow, good read. I read Po's book "the nudist on the late shift" when he was running around silicon valley during the dot com revolution writing stories about it's civilians. I enjoyed the book and this article even more, it's interesting to see how his perspectives on employment have changed. I think i can safely say he loves his job ;)
It reminds me of Twilight of a Champion (http://www.lyrics.net.ua/song/29205)
It's more of a cautionary tale though.

Hey Dan, if you want a laugh from "Nudist," check out Chapter 4, "The Programmers." That's us - and me. The whole thing isn't entirely accurate in its details (I've know about model-view-controller for a long time thankewverymuch, and Max and I get along great), but he definitely got the feel of it right. Some of the other guys actually had errata pages up for awhile though.
I keep that book around now to remind me what the '90s were like in the Bay Area. In some ways it was like sucking pure oxygen.
Po's a pretty cool guy, and a good writer (he did another article on my brother's and my first company too, and we appear in various guises in some of his Wired pieces). I'm looking forward to reading his new book.

Both articles are good. Thanks for the links.
I appreciated the Monbiot article much more than the other. More solid, with fewer retooled-for-the-Internet New Ageisms.
