Hi Everyone

My first game is almost ready :). It has been loaded to my web site and I have a few friends testing it at the moment. My web page is not complete and I do not yet need feedback on the web page itself.

 A common problem with the game is that it runs very slowly (2 FPS) - this problem seems to be directly related to Screen Card Memory. I'm not sure what I can do about it as I have optimised it as much as possible now.

I would greatly appreciate it if people could let me know what they think of the game as it is now, in addition I would like to have some sort of indication on what size screen card memory is required.

The direct download (850KB) is:
http://www.cairnsgames.co.za/download.asp?file=sales/matching.exe

Thanks

(Demo version allows 5 levels in each of the three game modes. - about 5 minutes play each - this Deta version will stop working on June 15th which is when I hope to put it up for sale)

I dont know the FPS, but it is as slow as hell.

On start up it's changing my screen resolution to some strange size, a very high resolution. Is there a reason why it's not running in something mainstream like 800*600 ? Also not sure what colour depth you are using/need ie 16 or 32 bit?

How about a screenshot or two while you're at it?

impossible to play, i get 1 fpm ( frame per minute )

I think you're loading your surfaces in RAM, not in VRAM.

What language are you using ?

Sorry this is slightly OT, but if you are doing a kid's farm game, I noticed a while back that the domain name abcfarm.com had been deleted. It struck me at the time that it would be great for an educational title.. don't know if it's still up for grabs though.

I was considering registering FarmerJoe.com as I have another two games that will use the same theme.

I'm writing in Delphi, using the GLXTreem libraries. Its based on OpenGL and should be loading into VRAM automatically. My PCs at home both have 64MB screen cards (GForce4 MX and an Intel Extreme Graphics Something or other on the notebook) - On both these PCs the game runs at about 48 FPS. How much Screen Card memory do you have?

I'm using a Screen resolution on 1024x767 - I realised it was a mistake but everything is already done. At this resolution it makes nice looking images :).

I've uploaded version 1.5 onto my website (Same link) - changed to keep the windows mouse cursor and should be playable even at 2 FPS :(

Screen shots are now up at:

I use a radeon 9800 PRO with 128 MB on board.

So that's not a VRAM problem.

Hey, I'll say! All right, I'm sure that was a typo...
