For the past few weeks Ive been looking at windows help making software, ive demo'd about 10 different ones, all ranging in price from $15.00 to $100.00
Would you believe that the freeware 'Help maker' is the best one I tried!

It's not free, but I have used "Help & Manual" for several years now with great results.
I'll have to check out this free one you mention.

Am wondering why not distribute the game documentation in HTML instead of Windows Help? Any advantages with .hlp?

Hlp's are very indexable, they have a built in search option. They are also a standard thats been around since win3.1 so I guess most users know something about them and how to use them. Html is fine but it does result in many files where as hlp's are neatly contained in 1 file, 2 at most.

I have been using Dreamweaver and the evil empire's html help workshop to produce .CHM files. Only drawback is it requires ie v4.01 runtime. :(
