A few people to look for would by Rhysd, and the people at Natomic.com.

Also it would be good to study as much pixel art as you can, and zoom in to see how detail and such is done. For example http://eboy.com is great place to start (no tutorial though)

Look on google for "natomic+pixel+art+tutorial" and also look for "ryhsd+pixel+art+tutorial" or just look for "pixel+art+tutorial" !

I like pixel art very much, but... keep in mind that it takes years until you are really good at it. It's by far the hardest way to make good looking graphics.

~there aren't impossible tasks - only impossible time frames. (so I've heard)

However, having some pixel pushing skills is really nice if you need to fix some graphics, for GUIs (to some extend) and for making a favicon.
