Why do about half of the sites to which PADs are submitted convert apostrophes in the product description text into garbage characters? This also occurs on some sites when I use three periods in a row.

There's a lot of bad software on the web and it's not just pad file interpreters but webforms too. My solution has been to avoid things like quotes in names. I have two titles which have both caused me problems. Currently in the pad file I use "A Snakes Life" without the apostrophe in Snake's for reasons of site compatibility. There are sites that handle it correctly but many do not.

What program are you using to edit your PAD files, or to write the descriptions? I see this often when people use Word or a similar text editor to write their descriptions... Word decides to get fancy and instead of putting in a straight apostrophe, it will convert it to a right-angled apostrophe. Same with the 3 periods in a row, it converts into a single character representing the 3 periods. To be technical, it takes your plain ASCII characters and "intelligently" converts them into characters outside the ASCII range.
The solution is to write your descriptions directly into PADGen (don't use copy/paste), or use a plain text editor to write your descriptions, such as TextEdit.
Or, it might be something else entirely. :)

I am using the latest version of PADGen, and writing the text directly into it.
I also inspected the actual XML file...there are no oddball codes or anything of the sort. Some web sites simply screw some forms of punctuation (in particular the apostrophe and sets of three periods...I haven't tried actual quotation marks.)
I was simply asking to see if someone had another method of handling this, since I would guess that anyone who submits a good amount of PAD files has seen this problem.
