My game GL Golf has sold 150 copies at 15 bucks in about 3 months on the mac alone, and I am wondering what your predictions are if I port it to the PC. My last game that I ported to the PC did horrible, but it was a simple puzzle game with bad graphics and the PC controls were bad. http://nuclearnova.com/glgolf.php has a screenshot and a download.
Also, for the mac I have submitted to macaddict, download.com, macupdate, macgamefiles, and a few small sites. What other options do I have to get downloads?

Honestly, even without looking at your game, it won't do as well on PC. There's just too much competition, you will have a hard time getting downloads...

Thats what I was thinking, and thats what happened with my other game (and the registration % was way lower on windows). It was my first game in C and OpenGL and 3D, so it was more of a learning experience and a mac product.

How long would it take you to port? I agree with Dan, but ultimately it's a simply mathematics. If the time it takes is low, it might still be worth it. My guess would be your highest conversion rate would come from owners of the Mac game that want to play it on PC and from PC owners who were shown the game by Mac friends. If the game isn't written to be as portable as possible already, then there are probably more productive uses of your coding time, such as improving the mac version or coming out with another game.

Wow. 150 copies . . . congratulations. Wish I had a Mac, so I could download your game and check it out. So, somebody tell me again, why am I developing for Windows??? It's stories like this, that make me glad I'm using SDL, and trying to stay away from any windows specific code. I had planned to release on windows first, shortly followed by a Mac release. Maybe it's time to pick up that used Mac and change my strategy a little.

Use PTK (http://www.phelios.com/ptk/) have have your game available for both platforms, with only minor code adjustments.

Studies have shown that PC owners don't have Mac friends. :D

My other game Escape has sold about 110 copies in 17 months, but it only get sales when I update it.
Also, GL Golf is written in Objective-C so I would have to retype every line of code into C++ probably. I think the game I am working on now will be ported, because its going to be much better.

Thats awesome, I will probably end up using that because it will make porting whole classes much easier
