I got an email about some new eSellerate features that many interest anyone in the process of picking a commerce partner. It looks like they're moving into more direct competition with Trymedia for customized embedded purchasing. No word if their changes including addressing the suspected problems of dropping affiliate credit for some sales. I didn't see any mention of the new features on their website yet, so here's the email itself:

eSellerate is pleased to announce new features to our industry-defining sales solutions that will help place the power and control of the customer experience into the hands of those who know them best – you!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Customized Web Stores
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extending your brand and marketing efforts is a major part of your sales strategy. With eSellerate, you have the ability to customize your web store to give your customers an all-inclusive sales experience. No more disconnect between the look and feel of your web site and that of your web store.

eSellerate now provides you with the tools and functionality to allow you to design your web store virtually any way that you desire.

You now have:

- the ability to control the user experience from single-page order
forms to multi-page processes
- the option of using your own web site’s layout design and graphics
- support to use CSS style sheets, Javascript, Quicktime and Flash
(to name a few)

In addition to being able to determine the best shopping experience for your customer, you now have additional options to use as you see fit:

- additional data fields to collect more information from your
customers
- pre-fill capabilities from data you may already have (return
shoppers, etc)
- the ability to add multiple SKUs to the cart at once

Unlike other layout opportunities available, eSellerate allows you to create your custom web store at your own convenience as well as giving you the ability to modify it at any time. There is no need to create your store and then wait until a representative posts it for you or work under somebody else’s schedule.

eSellerate provides you with the documentation you need to simply embed basic variables into your HTML, the rest is up to you.

Most important, this ability to tailor your customer’s sales experience comes at no additional cost to you. Custom layouts are included in the competitive rates we have always provided to our customers.

To get started with this great feature, log into your eSellerate account and click on “Custom Layouts.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Embedded Web Store:
------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the pioneer of in-application purchasing, we have continued to receive customer feedback, research new technologies, and understand the customer purchasing experience. All of these efforts have resulted in the exciting introduction of our Embedded Web Store.

The Embedded Web Store empowers you to add all of the amazing features of eSellerate’s Custom Web Store right into your application. As you are designing your layout’s look, feel and functionality, you are now in control of the purchase experience.

If your customers can use a web browser, they can use eSellerate’s Embedded Web store. A simple call from within your application launches a familiar web-based interface taking your customers through an online sales process that is more recognizable to them. Upon completion of the purchase, serial number information can then be passed directly back into your application, automatically making it a fully registered product.

Different from a simple “Buy” URL placed within your application, the Embedded Web Store allows you to talk directly with the eSellerate servers and perform additional tasks such as checking for product updates or provide product activation.

Highlights of the Embedded Web Store:

- all of the benefits of the Custom Web Store
- can be automated to control level of customer interaction
- increased security as well as eliminating most proxy and firewall
issues
- enhances eSellerate’s Product Activation by allowing activation of
multiple SKUs
- integrates into your product (small SDK of only 60k) creating a
seamless purchase experience that can be tailored for the type of
customers you have or want

------------------------------------------------------------------------
SKU Redirect
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ensure that your customers receive the most current version of your
product with SKU Redirect. This feature allows publishers to redirect a
request for 1 SKU to another SKU. Not only will this make sure that your
customers get the latest version, but also guarantees that your partners
receive credit for promoting it.

SKU redirect allows you to release applications in static media like
CD-Rom and then dynamically update the content.

The SKU redirect is available for legacy web stores, as well as the
newly released Custom and Embedded Web Stores.

For more information on SKU Redirect, please refer to the online
documentation or contact an eSellerate team member at
support@esellerate.net.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additions to XML order notification
------------------------------------------------------------------------

With this feature set release comes an addition to the XML order
notification that will affect only publishers that use the new Custom
Web Store. In the OrderInfo table, there will now be 10 new fields that
correspond to the custom data fields that can be placed into the Custom
Web Store. These fields will be labeled “Custom_0” through “Custom_9”.

Very Nice new features, i guess that if they were working on that they couldn't work on the cookies.
Cross fingers that it's for the next update!

They should also strengthen their fraudolent order checks. I got so many with them so far that seems incredible that I haven't got one with Plimus with 50x more sales...!
Anyway, seems they're going in the right direction, let's see...

More power to them but they have a long way to go.
