Anyone here have any opinion on, or better yet data showing that sending out a newsletter is better at particular times? What I mean is.... Is it better to send out a newsletter on a monday? Friday? Should I avoid sending on the weekend? Or is a weekend better? Does it matter?

The day does seem to matter, but I've never done a full A-B split test on this because I use 3rd-party software that makes it tough to do. Thursdays usually have the best results for me, especially for newsletters that announce a new game. You catch people going into the weekend or on Friday, which is a good time to buy games.

One thing I've noticed is that launching a new game on a holiday weekend, such as the 4th of July, Labor Day, or Memorial Day, is usually a bad idea. You might think a holiday weekend is a great time to launch, but my experience has always shown weak sales for these kinds of launches.

I have not had good luck with weekends, knew I probably wouldn't but had to try. Tues-Thursday are good days to start with.

Thanks Steve,

I was always pretty sure that that was "pretty excellent" idea to start our INVASION WAVES on 4th of July... :D :D :D - theme was requiring but... ;)

Sorry, I didn't have your opinion before. :)

I realize the DIY newsletter is different, but when we WERE releasing ours (cough..sigh) I would send a chunk of users the newsletter on one day, then another chunk of users the newsletter on a different one, and so on. I tried sending them on Wednesday night, Friday night, and Sunday night. Overall we got the best response when we did it Sunday nights (or monday morning.. whatever you cound 4am as, hehe). I think it's because people would come into work Monday morning and check their email (or something) and have the newsletter waiting for them, who knows. It does match our traffic pattern though, weekends suck for traffic.
