When it works properly, capitalism is great ;).

Is Paypal ever down? I setup my store with Paypal. Their Instant Payment Notification (IPN)/ Payment Data Transfer (PDT) was pleasant to code up in PHP/MySQL. Maybe you want to try Paypal as well.

Don't delude yourself cliffski, all credit card processing providers can freeze your money without much explanation, including merchant accounts.
(ask around, and you'll hear horror stories involving all cc processing companies. Heck, people even have trouble with their own merchant accounts at times ;))
In that respect Paypal is no worse or no better than any other.
We hear about them since they have huge critical mass of users, which implies a lot more fraudulent or problematic cases if you assume that the percentage of such cases is just about teh same across the board :)

given the amount of grief and errors and lack of customer support I encountered just trying to set up a paypal account, I really don't trust my money with them to be honest.

It's difficult to trust a company such as Paypal which has conveniently sidestepped a lot of legislation designed to protect vendors and consumers alike. Until they toe the line and work with existing legislation frameworks they're never going to be 100% trustworthy.

This may be different, Im not sure, but a LOT of users of Ebay have paypal accounts, and if there were so many problems, im sure Ebay wouldnt be as popular as it is. Obviously this has nothing to do with Ebay, but it still used PayPal. Ive got an ebay account and have sold/bought things with paypal with absolutely no problems. As I said, not sure if its the same thing (as Ive never used it to sell games), but Im sure its similar. :)

Right, it's an issue of scale. PayPal is huge and has a huge amount of users, therefore you hear about more problems. Same with anything, really.

For every problem you hear about PayPal, there are 10's of thousands of people who have no issues whatsoever.

well I'd suggest you to switch anyway to them!
you get more features and really instant reply for LESS commission. difficult to beat that in my opinion.
Just got an answer from them: I asked to put the hit vs sales report also for affiliates. In less than 3 hours the feature was added. That's what I call GOOD customer service ;)

im setting up my plimus settyings now. might do a trial period swap.
their order page does seem very very slow to kme though, which is a bit scary. Also I want them to remove the download insurance option, i like an uncluttered order form.
So far so good though.

Ask them. They'll do it in minutes.

I've asked some weird stuff from them (duplicate products, move contracts from one product to another) and they have been extremely helpful and quick.

You mean their control panel, or the buynow page you made for your site?
I checked mine now and is quite fast :p

If you need any help, maybe for setting up a custom page (which in my opinion is really cool) ask me, I've reached good results, look at this page:
https://www.plimus.com/jsp/buynow.jsp?contractId=1636561
and try to find a difference from my main site!

For the download insurance just email them and they'll remove it for you.

I'm not trying to rub it in but the poignant thing is Paypal is not down. Is it ever down? Their fees is very low as well.

For the developer, they have good docs, sample code, 3rd party test rigs or their own developer central with a sandbox to create buyer/seller accounts and simulate the whole process - payment & refunds . You can also go live (create 1 buyer, 1 seller account) and do real orders and refund them within 60 days - no fees deducted - its good.

The downsides I see are chargeback you have to pay at least 7 GBP (10 usd I think) and they are not geared for shareware sales. Discounts, Multi-buys etc could be a problem. Since I've got only one game for now, it doesnt bother me.

Others have genuinely pointed out in another thread, somebody can potentially change the price or the email of the seller and divert money to themselves and still run away with a registration code. It bothers me but is easily solved if you check if all the parameters are the right ones when Paypal passes control to the keygen on your server (IPN, PDT). If not, dont e-mail or display the registration code. Log the sale and Issue a refund immediately.

Transfer to UK bank account is free above 50 GBP. Others may charge a check fee or a wire transfer fee. Maybe I will risk it - the fees are mouth wateringly low - if it doesnt work - back to ShareIt.

I cant help but think that Paypal will probably go last out of business than others bcos they seem to be in safe hands with Ebay. You guys are flocking to Plimus but how long have they been around? Please think about that. However, I will keep drawing my money often and with Paypal, can do it when I choose to. With a service like ShareIt, I have to wait for the month's end before I get my payment. Not in my control. Much more risky.

In any case, dont use Digital Candle. When I asked them for an account to test the ordering process of a previous product of mine they gave me a live one with a dummy credit card that was validated by default! I could go to their catlog site and use that to order any software I wished and get the registration code routed to a sweet yahoo id. Did a straight 180* on them. Test. Test. Test and Pray. Thats the mantra.

hehe well switching processor doesn't mean instant sales ;) otherwise everyone would change :)
however if you set it for affiliates I'd be happy to put it on my site now!
