Hi Everyone.

I'm trying to improve the keywords in my meta tags. A few questions.

1) Does the order of the keywords matter?
2) Do I need to resubmit to search engines after changing the tags?
3) Are meta tags even that important anymore?

Thanks!

Guess not.

>2) Do I need to resubmit to search engines after changing the tags?

Submitting itself isn't really necessary. The bots will stop by when they feel like doing so anyways. Eg most stuff I write gets indexed 5-7 days later.

Not anymore. Well, at least google and other usable search engines don't care much about em. They care about the text and it's size, context, how many sites link to you (link text)... stuff like that.

Just add anything relevant to your meta tags, don't write the same word several times (some search engines will degrade your rank for doing so) and that's it.

I haven't bothered using meta tags in a long time, but it's very difficult to measure if they have an effect anymore or not. They are probably a good thing to have though.

I think more important than meta tags is the title of your page. I may be wrong.

Thanks.

I did a lot more reading after I posted and oNyx pretty much summed it up. I will prioriatize them though as it can't hurt and some lesser search engines apparently only store X bytes so some might get cut.

From what I've read the most important things to consider are

1) Keep the list short (in relation to the body text)
2) Make sure your keywords also appear in the body text
3) Don't repeat

By "Don't repeat" I'm not sure if they mean entire keyword phrases or singular words. Would "shareware games", "downloadable games" count as a repeat because of the word "games"?
