Thought I'd do an informal poll... Of the indie produced/shareware games you've played which did you most personally enjoy and spend a lot of time playing? (Im posting here because I'm specifically curious about what developers like to play)
For me... I've spent quite a bit of time hammering things in Dr. Lunatic by Hamumu software.

One of my older favorites was a shareware game called Oxyd. It was a puzzle game that involved controlling a rolling marble. At the time I had played it (almost 10 years ago), I had never seen any game like it. What's interesting is that it would probably still sell well today.

Yes I remember that game. I liked it too. You should try and find that guy :-)

ADOM and VGA Planets. And the fact that I like these two indie games a lot better than any AAA game has nothing to do with me being an indie wannabe.

VGA planets was mighty, no doubt about that. I had quite the phonebill downloading turns at 2400baud back in the day.
Some of my favorite indie games that i've played recently have been Crumby & Co., Rox, Chase Ace 2, and Strange Adventures In Infinite Space.

I have 3 all time favorites, Raptor: call of the shadows, One Must FAll 2097, and Cyberdogs (C-Dogs). Galactix was pretty sweet too.
*tries to think of any indie game he has actually played alot of*
Hmm well I'd have to say AI wars since that's the only one I actually bought.
Very developer focused though :)

It's got to be Strange Adventures In Infinte Space from http://www.cheapass.com
Still totally addicted after several months. Every hour I feel compelled to play it about 5 or 6 times to relax.
After that it's Gridrunner++ from http://www.llamasoft.co.uk
I'm a long standing old fan of Jeff Minter's games.

Rebound is good.
Overflow was good too.
bridgebuilder was cool, but it was freeware.
debris was also pretty cool.

I beta-tested Debris for David Bollinger, that was a cool game. He's a very good developer; he also wrote Rings of the Magi. I worked with Dave on an adventure game project that couldn't find a publisher. Recently I wasted a lot of time in Icy Tower by Free Lunch Design (http://www.freelunchdesign.com/), which is freeware. Very simple game concept, but addictive.

Dink Smallwood...it was a game 'like Diablo' with a very fun story.

My fav was Commander keen 1-3 :-) At the time it was shareware. And I don't consider any of the "keens" after 3 to be that great.
BTW I still have the registered versions of Keen 1-3, which reminds me i probably need to move them to a new disk, as these old disks go bad.

Next to geneforge, probably my favorite shareware RPG, it had such a great sense of humor.
