Hi,

I've been in the process of looking for industry work these past weeks but I thought I would post here and see if there is any demand for freelance artists within the community. I've seen postings along this topic before but there's no indication of how many developers actually use or are looking for freelancers.

If you want to check my on-line portfolio:

The bad news is that I do have to charge for my services (I have bills and all) but the good news is I'm not interested in horning in on anyones royalties. If I do artwork for you, the property is 100% yours.

Also, I'm fairly certain that I can be reasonable as far as rates go. Somone mentioned before that they saw rates as high as $500 for one splash screen, I can assure you that my rates wouldn't be that ridiculous!

I'm just testing the waters at the moment so if you want to post here and let me know if you've ever used or considered using freelance artists for your projects (and what rates you would consider reasonable) I would appreciate the info.

I'd also be interested in knowing of any distributors (ie. Dexterity) that might hire freelancers.

Thanks for your help!

Actually, for a 2 or 3 day project, $500 is about right...

Yeah, extrapolating that out over a year, that comes out to anywhere from $40K-62K per year, which is not extravagant or ridiculous. Don't sell yourself short!:)

KNau: Have you thought of submitting some of your models to Gamasutra exchange? Personally I have no use for artists as I've decided to do everything myself. So I'm buying kits and assembling the art in 3D scenes.

One thing I've noticed is some of the models there are really overpriced and some are very reasonable for what they offer.

Boats are a real rip-off so if you made a kit with quite a few boat types and charged a reasonable price you could do well.

Check this guy out:

He has the market cornered on modern cities but no one has done anything as good with medieval or ancient cities.

In Hungary and most of the eastern-european countries only extremly expert database specialists earn sums like this. In the almost non-existent game and film industry this is a totally ridiculous and extravagant wage. :)

Yeah that sounds like a lot to me. About what our prime minister gets paid I believe.

Er, that would be the New Zealand prime minister I should say - I'm sure Koizumi gets paid more (even though he doesn't do anything)
