lol
thought i'd put some entertainment with this thread...
what do you eat when you spend days working infront of the
computer on your next game/market your game?
i tend to have 3-4 days (!!!) sessions infront of the computer
nonstop when i'm into something. the only thing i stop for
is:
1. bathroom, shower ect.
2. my g/f, but she understand if i'm really in the muse to program
3. eat, somthing i'm doin during.
so what type are you?
the pizza slices? (hurray pepperoni!) burger/nachu?
put something into the micro-oven?
sorry Steve if it's a bit off topic, just thought about people working
habbits.

chick peas fry (very less oil):
1 cup chick peas
sunflower oil (3 teaspoons)
some mustard seeds
desicated cocounut
method: Put oil in pan. Wait for it to boil. Put mustard seeds and wait for them to pop. Then add desicated coconut and mix. Drop the chick peas on top. Some salt, pepper/chilli and you got a nice snack in 5 minutes. You could also drop cooked pasta too on top if you like.
I drink a lot fresh fruit juice, lots of fruits - lychees is my favourite, mangoes etc - all got from the local market. They just pluck it from the trees and bring them over.
I avoid coke and pizza makes my tires get fatter.

I always eat these tamari almonds that I get at Whole Foods. They are flavored with soy, and they have no oil or salt.
They are so damn good :D
Despite the fat, research has shown that almonds have many health benefits- it sure beats chips and mountain dew!
For drinks, I usually have kool aid :)
I used to eat really bad stuff, fast food all the time. I play in several basketball leagues and generally excercise a lot, so I never worried about it. Finally, I went to the doctor about a year ago. My cholesterol was a whopping 238!!!
So I completely changed my diet. Low fat, healthy, natural foods (and lots of almonds!). Within 3 months, I got it down to 187- it's probably lower than that now. Ever since then, I have stuck to eating healthy- even though it sometimes drives my wife crazy! I have had fast food a total of twice in the last year. Two too many :D

I love those fruti-o things from costco. I used to drink a lot of diet pop but then I started reading up on aspartame and got a little scared. So now I drink the sugar stuff, but not nearly as much as I used to.

Well, don't really eat in front of the computer unless it's a bowl of cereal in the morning, but to entertain the poll I chose pizza.

I do my best to have normal meals. In fact this was one of the items I had put on my “indie way benefits” list when I was deciding to leave my day job.
My normal meals are mostly vegetarian. I eat at 12 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The first and the third meal are fruits only. It was hard to keep this routing on my day job. :)
For drinks, I have water, fruit and vegetable juice.

Heh, Im still half expecting middle-aged spread to one day catch up with me but as of yet Im quite lucky that no matter how much I eat, and regardless of what I eat, I never seem to gain any weight. I'm still 160lbs ish and just under a 30" waist. Until such time as that changes, when coding, or working hard on graphics stuff, nothing is simpler than shoving a pizza in the oven for ten minutes or throwing some McCain Fries in the microwave. No hassle involved and ready in a very short space of time :) Heh, I also tend to eat a lot of toast during the day.
As for liquid refreshment.. anything with caffeine.. and the more of it has, the better.

Hey now, I make my *husband* cook me meals. Sexists. :)
...but for snacks I largely rely on Interesting Japanese Snacks if I can find them, or Ginger Thins, which are very nice cookies/biscuits.
Actually, we've got a lot of random boxes of candy scattered around the room; he's got a terrible sweet tooth. I don't eat them much. There's chocolate-mint, chocolate-coffee, chocolate-orange...

I eat normal meals (vegetarian), but I also snack! (The poll implies the acts are exclusive or something)
For snacking, I might grab an apple, a banana, a Chinese pear (amazing taste, nothing like any other pear) and occasionally grapes. I'm also a fan of granola bars.

Trader Joes' Oriental Rice Crackers. Also, lots of bananas.

I don't snack much when working, actually. I insist on an iced beverage when working, though, so I do keep plenty of Pepsi on hand, and tea brewed.
About once a week or so, I'll make 5-6 dozen cookies, usually some variety of chocolate chip (last week was oatmeal chocolate chippers--sweet and crunchy!). The cookies aren't just for me, of course. The wife and son eat 'em, as well, so it's not like I'm a complete pig... ;)
And...since I make them from "scratch", and not a mix, they're not too unhealthy for you. Just good old fashioned sweet stuff. :)

I keep my food intake pretty varied on a whole, but a good 30% of my diet consists of pasta and red sauce. I'll make a pound of pasta and a pot of sauce and then eat that over the course of two or three days. Sometimes I'll dish it out into individual plates, cover them, and stick them in the frige. I can just chuck a plate in the microwave, heat, and consume. My tomoato sauce is usually home-made from diced tomatoes or fresh tomatoes-- and sometimes I mix half-fresh and half-Prego or Hunts.
As for snacking, I'll do peanut butter&jelly, bananas, cereal, eggs, ramen, grapefruit (have a tree out back), and there are these really cheap microwave Burritos.. Las Campanas brand (not Tina's... I hate Tinas, those are like eating mud and paper). They run about the same price as ramen and they're actually healthier (sadly).
There are numerous days when I have one or more servings of everything listed above. I'm kinda hyper-active and I play sports and run and lift weights, so I burn and consume some 3,500 to 5,000 calories a day. Actually, a reaaally big portion of my budget goes to food.

Herbal tea and an occasional fruit mixed in between. Mostly bananas.

Peanuts (Monkey nuts) for me.
I'm still trying to find something I can be constantly eating that isn't fatty or bad for you (rice cakes are ok, but they tend to make me sick if you eat too much). I like to be eating something all the time when I'm at the computer.
But normally, I have breakfast (8.30-9am) which is usually two pieces of bread with light butter and orange juice, I have a frozen microwave meal or leftovers from previous day during lunch (at work 1pm) and for tea i usually have some bread or cereals (5pm) for dinner (8pm or later if I have practise) i make a home made meal where I take care into not making it too fatty.
I haven't had a pizza for 6 months or so now, don't eat burritos or tacos or whatever. :)
Still looking for that "low fat, good for you, constant nibbling" food for when I am at the PC.

My answer to that problem is fresh veggies (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, etc). I can eat those until the cows come home. :) I also keep a box of Triscuits or a bag of sunflower nuts around for my occasional "salt and fat" fix.

I inherited from my mother a predilection for pretzels. They're not bad for you, some sodium. Mostly it's a too many carbs issue. If I find myself snacking out fanatically it's probably because I'm avoiding something unpleasant in my work and need to just go do it.

Beef jerky here. Lots of it if I'm really coding hard. Also these no-calorie flavored waters they have now. I can handle aspartame just fine, but the carbs do me in.
When I was younger, back in the bad old days, standard snacks would be a diet coke and those little chocolate donuts from the vending machine. Oof. That's how I found out I need to lay off the carbs. ;-)

Beef Jerky would have been my favorite snack food if it weren't so damn expensive.
For the longest time, I'd buy those generic peanut butter/ritz cracker 6 packs at the store, 2 12 counts for three dolla. I still eat them sometimes, but I cut down on them a bunch. Now I try to stick with carrots and cocktail sauce.

I always have two packs of Uncle Tobys Yoghurt Topps muesli bars in my desk drawer next to where I code. Usually either the Apricot or Very Cherry flavours. Better than potato chips, but since it's 20g of carbs and 5g of fat per serve, I should find healthier snacks. This thread might give me some ideas.
I used to have a candy jar full of sweets, everything from marshmallows to Kool Fruits, fruit gels and candy snakes. Of course that's a terribly bad idea!! Nowadays if I have a candy craving, I usually have a BioProtein bar leftover from the gym. A couple of tiny bites (nothing more!) cures it instantly and helps make me feel full. Again, not the healthiest thing, but it's slightly healthier than the alternative and it's enjoyable.
For drinks I always have water while I'm coding, nothing else. I have a 600mL bottle by me at all times and try to drink constantly while coding. The theory is that the more water I drink, the sharper my mind will be... or at least it's the healthiest drink to have.

I find that the produce section of the grocery store is perfect for this. Fresh vegetables and fruits are dirt cheap and can be eaten with little to no preparation. The downside is that you better be ready to eat a lot of them because they don't fill you up for long.

Currently I don't use any snacks while working. But I remember my summer hardcore programming 12 hours sessions powered by 2-3 litres of Coke. Don't know, maybe it has something that boost my thoughts. Though I don't drink it anymore (at least not in such volumes), I drink tea with jam instead (as it isn't so harmful for my health). ::cool:
