View Full Version : Server hard drive crash

This morning our server's hard drive suffered a complete failure. It took a while to get everything back online, since our server setup is fairly customized, but the critical items are up and running again. Fortunately no customer or ordering data was lost, since those are backed up frequently and also stored in redundant databases on different servers.

Unfortunately, the most recent backups for these forums were about 10 weeks old, so any posts, accounts, and private messages created during this time were lost. I'm very sorry for this, and I'll be automating the forum database backups so they're far more frequent. The hard drive that crashed was only 3 months old.

The net effect is that the forums have essentially warped backwards in time to the state they were at on March 26.

Please feel free to rekindle any active discussions that may have been prematurely killed off.

And again, I sincerely apologize for the loss.

Perhaps you should post this to the dev-board too. I think a lot of users only read there and not in the general discussion. It could be that you'll get a lot mails asking "why did I got banned".

:)

Lost more than a few posts. I changed my password a couple of months ago and could not remember what it was before I changed it :) Am glad the BB made it easy to get a new password.

Sorry about the crash.

Done. I'll also keep both threads sticky for a while.

Also, if anyone needs help with passwords that have changed, this board can automatically email you your password -- just try to login with an incorrect password, and it will give you the option to email it to you. If you need any help with your account, just email websitemaster@dexterity.com, or send me a private message via this board.

Whew! I was beginning to suffer from forum withdrawl :p

I'm glad you managed to get everything fixed and back online so quickly.

--EDIT--

Hey, all of my posts must have been lost. It says this is my first one. Oh well, there were only 10 to begin with.
