I have been thinking about this for a few weeks now. I was really suprised to see how card games are the top selling shareware games right now. Take a look at MS Solitaire, how many people, execs, kids, grandpa's etc, play that game?! So this got me thinking about Desktop games.

Ok, so what the hell is a desktop game? Well it's something I just made up (I think, may have heard this somewhere before) to describe a type of game that the user plays while doing other things. Let me explain what I mean, Say you have a busy day of work ahead, but every 40 minutes or so you need to relax for 5 minutes and want to play a game, you alt-tab to the game, make a few moves, do a few tasks then its back to work. I don't think a game like this would be full screen (making it easier to just click it to the back), it would also not be action related, although it could pause when it loses focus.

I am not sure where my focus is with this, but it begs the question of if such a type of game is viable and if so has it been implimented (in a game not related to cards) and if so what are the results.

I don't know the answer to your question, but you might want to check out "Dilbert's Desktop Games" http://www.dreamworksgames.com/Games/dilbert/

If those games got published by Dreamworks Interactive, then those kinds of games must have potential, maybe.
