Do you guys know if a download can be directed directly to the downloading page of your software on download.com and still count as a download (how my current site is) or do I need to redirect them to the actual info page on download.com that contains a link to the download page?
Sorry if confusing ;)

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the point of directing visitors from your site to the download.com page that makes them download the demo from your site? Just to increase the download count? Or is download.com hosting your file?
Maybe I didn't understand the question :(

to confuse people like me who always jump straight to the developer's site off download.com rather than download immediately. :)
(Although my reasons for doing so are odd enough that I doubt it's common)
But yeah, I think it's just to get more downloads on the listing and look more popular.

Its not to look more popular, its to be more popular ;)
Getting on the top 50 list on download.com is an extremely good way of huge sales and conversions.
So anyway, does anyone know the answer to my question?
Thanks.

This has been discussed in the ASP newsgroup and if I remeber correctly Scott Arpajian indicated that linking to download com was even encouraged. Check with their support to see if linking directly to the download page is OK, they know the best.
I think the idea they have is that the traffic makes their banners more profitable (and makes you possibly loose your download).

A personal question to you Kai-Peter :) I noticed that the version number for your game is 0.9f (at least last time I checked some time ago). Why you didn't choose a version like 1.0? The game is still in beta and you're selling pre-order download or there some other reason? :p
