I am in my second week of college for Game Art & Design, and this site was referenced in our resource guide. Having checked a few of the links provided, this seemed to be the place where I could find some answers... maybe?

This next week we are studying the differences in the global market of the video game industry, and (by Tuesday) we need to have some info on the Korean Game market. Anyone know of a good place to look?

Most of the major companies (playstation, nintendo, etc) provide international sites for Germany, Japan, and the like - but no one seems linked to Korea - which is a country with more hard-core gamers than the US!

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it :D

Very interesting, these forums have hardly been up for more then a month (if my memory serves me correctly). It's interesting that they are already being promoted as a reference. I know some basics about the Korean game market but I don't think you'd want to be quoting anything from me or anyone else on this forum.

Your best bet is to read up on broadband penetration in Korea, the popularity of internet/game cafes. Look at games like lineage or star craft and their popularity in Korean Markets. Also look at new broadband distribution platforms like valves "steam" platform that are really designed to cater to the Korean market. Some difficulties in the Korean market would be piracy and intellectual property rights, as neither are enforced and the retail system in Korea is basically broken which is why American publishers are tentative to sell boxed copies of their games there.

Don't take it from me though, use some of the above as search terms in google and see what you can dig up.
