I don't know if this is a question I should direct to the moderator or just post in general, but here goes:

What are the range of topics that can be discussed on this message board? I'm assuming that anything dealing with independent gaming. I've seen posts on marketing and programming, but can slightly off topics be posted or does it have to be strictly related to marketing or programming?

I know that some of the people who use this message board are experienced programmers and thus far I have found more knowledgeable information on this board than any of the others I have been on including GameDev message boards. So I prefer to ask most of my questions here.

For example, I am currently writing new code for our web page and having some problems and would like to ask if anyone has ideas on this. Since we need a web page to sell shareware, it seems appropriate, but since it is not specifically related to developing a game or marketing a game, some people might consider it inappropriate.

How strict is this message board?

A topic about asking how strict the board is, is an illegal violation of everything that this board represents!!... just kidding :D Use your judgement, most people are really nice here and if your question is that far off topic then they will guide you to somewhere helpful

You point, I'll laugh !! ;p

Feel free to post the ocasional OT question, but keep them to a low number and never post anything OT thatis nothing but a flame starter or as in all rules of courtesy, attack any PoV, religion, color of skin, bla bla bla bla bla.

Apart from that, don't spam :)

We are all professionals (ok, I'm a professional slacker) but we do enjoy a break every once in a while, we however don't enjoy dealing with trolls and idiots ;)

You're a special case. We have to keep one around, just to show everyone else what not to do. :)

Anything loosely related to indie game development is fair game, as long as it doesn't drift into flame-bait topics like politics or religion. Valid topics would include anything related to programming, the state of the economy, marketing & sales ideas, motivation, game ideas, etc. Unless something is overly harmful to the board or its members in some way, I'm normally fine with it. If there was a problem with too many off-topic messages, we could tighten things up a bit and split the forum into multiple subforums, but for now it seems to work just fine.
