Our new game, Torpedo has just been released and I've already got a thousand more ideas for it ;)

Anyway, I'd love to hear comments and critique.

Thanks!

How come all the screenshots on your site have href="" in them so we rabid anti-javascript folk get endlessly looped to the front page if we try to click on them? :)

Not that it's a big deal, but since you do have backup href code in there to catch people whose onclick won't work, it would be nice if the href actually pointed to the picture. :)

noted... I knew there was something in the screenshots script that needed to be done!

Played the demo and enjoyed it.

1. I really like the cartoon graphics style until u reach the mission failed/succeeded screen where you break the style by having a high res photoreal sky. You should have the same style throughout the game.

2. Missions with limited bomb numbers should end when u run out of bombs, instead of making u sit waiting for the timer to count down. Either that or the clock should speed up and count down to zero.

3. I entered my initials in arcade mode and it encountered a fatal error and crashed (win2k OS)

4. Story mode. It wouldn't go past level 7, just kept replaying the same level. Not sure if this was an intentional limit but if it is then it should make that clear, rather than just repeating the level forever.

Almost forgot. Really liked it. Good fun to play and if you introduce extra features in later levels the life span of the game could be quite long.

it is a nice game with cool graphics .;) ... here are my notes:-
1-I love the cartoon style graphics but it may require more attention (for example highlighting an item in the menu).
2-the red submarine explosion is not clear in the arcade mode (cuz the background is red)
3-The story section is great and it has many cool ideas.
why the level did not finish when my bombs number is zero?
4-the high scores window does not appear properly
5-you should add music to the game

obscure: could you give me any more information about when it crashed on the hiscores?

ehbgamer: in what way does the hiscore window not work?

I've got the no bombs ending sorted for the next release as well as a cleaner interface (adding more buttons etc)

I'm thinking about making the number of story levels up to around 10/15. Anyone think it's a wise move? (These will be unique to demo).

Philip, great game - surprisingly fun and addictive. About the game:

1. Everything Dan says except I didn't get a crash
2. You've got a proportional font and put it in fixed-width blocks. The letter 'I' looks pretty bad!
3. Keep the "missions" to 8 or so for the demo but figure out a way to generate randomized missions for the full game. I had little incentive in the arcade mode other than playing until I screwed up; I had a load more fun on the missions. The missions should get harder and harder but never impossible.
4. Don't include the other modes in the demo!!!!!

On the business:

1. I finished playing the demo with absolutely no urge to part with $15 for it! Not even $5! There was no nag on startup, no in-game nag, no nag when I tried to exit; nothing to tell me why spending any money at all would give me more than I already had in the demo!
2. ... hence, get rid of the arcade mode in the demo!
3. Consider charging <$10 for it; it looks cheap, so it's got to be cheap. At $10 it's up against the likes of digital-eel.com where we've got similar great gameplay but wrapped in gorgeous graphics.
4. Be really, really clear on your website about the tons of new stuff you're going to add to the full version of the game. More sea-life! Divers to blow up! Submarines that shoot back! More bubbles! 100 missions! etc. And make sure all that's in the nag screen in the game too

Sent to the right places this game should give you a great return on investment.

(BTW my system specs are Dell 8100 Inspiron, GF2Go, latest drivers, works fine but occasionally there's a fullscreen flicker)

Cas :)

I agree with princec. Its great to play but no incentive to buy because your not making it clear that there is anything more to get.

I would actually end the demo at mission 8 rather than just replaying the same mission and then go to a screen that makes it clear that buying gets you X,Y and Z (with a handy BUY NOW button that links back to your website).

Also as princec said the same nag errrr I mean information screen when you end the demo. Its good fun so "sell it" hard.

I noticed the game goes a good bit faster in the first few seconds of each mission.

It crashed on alt-tab. Once you fail, getting back to the menu is confusing (the game kept starting a new game instead). You should automatically fail if you run out of bombs. The objects screen need to draw more attention to the goals, I didn't even notice them the first time and almost posted a bug about running out of bombs. An idea that might work is to be more graphical about the goals, using graphics to depict goal types, and maybe displaying less stuff on the screen (the background is distracting). The ship can move as fast as the mouse and I'm not convinced that's a good thing.

It's a fun game and I remember playing this on my Ti calculator, except that one the points were based on how fast the sub was going. If you redrew the art to make it more detailed the game could work out nicely.

ha! funny game. it gave me a good laugh. I enjoyed the cartoony graphics very much. It needs more depth though to be a serious product.

I agree w/ the others the colorfull graphics are great. On the main options screen there was strait line that appeared down the right side of the crosshair (the right edge) that I don't think was there on purpose, it only appears when the crosshair is moved.
My only suggestions are that if you're aiming this game towards kids, you could make a background editor type drawing program w/ a simple pencil and paintbrush available for kids to create their own backgrounds for the game, also multi-player modes are great for kids as well (if that is in fact your target audience).

Found a bug...
After beating level 7, its suppose to go to level 8 but just takes you back to level 7...

Either thats a bug or the end of the demo...If its the end, you need to let us know that.

Good game though.

$14.95 is a bit much, but who knows ;)
