I've never seen a shareware fighting game before. I've seen a shareware beat-em-up game, but never a fighting game. Wonder why they arn't very popular

One Must Fall :) I remember that... mmm... nostalgia.

I don't think that its just a lack of shareware fighting games, but a lack of fighting games for PC entirely... I can only think of a few over the years. I always wondered myself why this was..?? *shrug*

Probably because on the PC, its very unlikely people have game controllers and joysticks. The consoles would win in this department.

I find myself humbled before you and your god-like knowledge of shareware games.

And P.S., fighting games on PC's are almost never good. I love fighting games but I can't think of a good one I ever played on the PC, it doesn't seem like a very good platform for the genre.

even more unlikely than having a gamepad (with a decent number of buttons) on a PC is having TWO of them. which is what makes a fighting game fun. :^)

Ok, so you use the Q, W, E, R, A, S, D, Z, X, and C keys, while I use the U, I, O, P, J, K, L, ,, ., and / keys, it'll be fun!

most pc fighting game doesn't sell very well.

I've worked on a shareware fighting game a year ago,
the maker has since closed his websites due to poor sales and made the game a freeware.

you can still download a copy here and check it out

Wow, that's a flash back! One Must Fall was a great game. I see their remaking it now, too. Little Fighters (http://i.am/lf2) is another excellent shareware fighter!

I pitacularly like how I was able to give an in-depth review of the entire game in just two sentances containing no more then 4 words apiece. Call it a gift ;)

The maker of one must fall is making another fighting game btw.

Cant remember the name, but it looks a bit like virtual on.

Might be ok.

Phil.

OMF proved that you can make a great fighting game on PC.
I remember playing it a lot. I played that game MORE than Tekken 3 on PSX... and I've said all.
It was the first one to provide a RPG/Strategy point of view to fighting games. Surely that is the way to go in the future.
I remember also that its graphics were pretty awful... expecially the opponents portraits seems amateurish drawing :) but it was so fun that I didn't care much about the graphic aspect.

I know that was one of the shareare best-selling games of that year, if not the best one.

p.s. just to be precise, I think the name was "One Must Fall: 2097" not 2099 :D

Interesting enough, although fighting games aren't popular on the PC in US there are a lot of 2D fighters made in Japan. Check out the shop.himeya.com windows (non-adult...) section. Some of the games, like Melty Blood for example, are pretty good.

I think someone should make a "PC fighter," something like the Halo of fighting games, that has a control scheme that works really well on PC and appeals to PC gamers. Maybe the new OMF game will pull it off?
