    Hello

    http://forums.indiegamer.com/showth...ism-corruption&p=280889&viewfull=1#post280889

I did a bit of clean-up in this thread and thought I might bring the issue up here. I basically removed seven swear words (mostly F-bombs) from two posts by the same user, after requesting that he might do it himself. It isn't that he ignored my request as I don't *think* he visited between me asking, then me doing it, but I figured 48 hours was enough of an opportunity. Anyway, he never removed the swear words as I'd requested so I did it myself and issued an infraction for each post.

I'm not naive enough to think that nobody swears ever - I do it myself IRL quite a lot. But I just didn't think that level of profanity was at all justified in getting his point across (they come across as very angry posts even without the language).

    Thoughts?

I agree. I'm not against swearing if its infrequent and seems suitable in the context of say an entertaining rant, but there were quite a few in that post for sure. I know it generally has been frowned upon in the past (before my moderator/admin days). In the mean time, it looks like he has replied to your post and it isn't likely to happen again (from him). If the admin panel has a post filter, do you feel that should I use it? or should it just be a matter of education/verbal warning?

Also, I don't have a problem with where you posted this thread, but just wanted to make sure you were aware, the Moderator forum is still only available to Moderaters to view/post, but this forum is open to everyone (just in case you didn't want this to show up for everyone).

I don't think swearing in real life is bad (it might even be beneficial, as some research suggests), but in a forum it should very rarely be needed. A forum is far from a spontaneous environment so some self-moderation is to be expected. Also, I view this forum as a pretty much professional place, so such language feels juvenile compared to the usual tone of the posts.

No, I'm fine with everyone seeing this thread - I assumed it was public anyway, otherwise it'd be no different to the private moderator's forum.

Mentioning it publicly really serves to highlight the issue and might deter other folk from going on profanity-ridden rants. It's much easier to not break the rules if you know what the rules are in the first place.

I just added a slew of vulgarities to the vbulletin filter... hopefully it doesn't cut our post rates in half ;)

I agree with Cubit-Games I am a young indie developer and I was glad to find a forums website that's nice and clean, and I would be disappointed to see it be aloud.

This problem should be resolved... let me know if you are seeing any new posts with curse words.
