Hi everyone, I'm not releasing a new game per se but rather a new game project. Sprite Sequence is an online game series that should be released once a week (kind of how comic artists do web comics). I don't know of any other game project that works as such so be sure to let me know if you do (I'm not talking episodic content). The entries in the series are veeery short. Like a few minutes of game time for each entry and will allow me a lot of freedom for exploring the medium, which is the whole point of the project. You can read my blog post for more informations or start at the beginning of the series.
Sprite Sequence received a few new entries. To tell the truth, the first four entries are not very good. They are mostly me trying to figure out what the project is about and how to work with GameMaker Studio. It gets more interesting starting with the fifth entry (at the moment I'm up to a total of 7 entries). Start where you want by clicking below. You can also browse right on the website using the arrows on each side of the entries. Sprite Sequence #5 Sprite Sequence #6 Sprite Sequence #7 Enjoy and stay tuned! New entries will be posted every Friday (hopefully)!
hi man just found this project of you. It s awesome the idea of weekly releases is cool. I can totally see the development. Im now at the tree with the fly fruit. I enjoyed all levels. I dont think the first ones are bad. I really like the style of art and the gameplay works fine. great job! do you want any suggestions/feedback? Is everything on the blog form you? i cant get the solution to the level where i get the sword, i allways die. Doyou have a hint for me? greetings Os
Hi Os, Thanks a lot for your kind words. I appreciate! I work alone on the project so everything you see in and around the game sequences is from me, yes. I just programmed a new javascript website last week with a proper archive page. In "no12 - prepare to fight", you just made me notice I forgot to add instructions for some buttons (they were present in the previous website). Press Z and X to attack respectively down and up with the sword. I'll fix the instructions. Of course I'm always happy to receive any suggestions and feedback on the project. You can do so here, on my Facebook page or on the Patreon page, whichever platform feels better for you. Eventually there will be a comment section on the site too but I'm not there yet. Thanks! Kevin
cool, great work And the blog you linked, which talks about the game, is all that form you, too? ok, thanks, i try to pass it now can i post my feedback here, too? ( I like this place the most ) greetings Os
The instructions for sequences 12 and 13 (including buttons Z and X for sword fighting) have been fixed. Thanks for that. What blog are you talking about? Games and Men linked from my signature? Yes it's mine and the content is all from me. I don't use it much anymore though. Blog seems kind of outdated now. Do people still read blogs nowadays?
thanks yeah games and men. cool, i m gona have a look on it Sorry i cant answer this question i dont know much about people greetings Os
But still, I'm addressing the whole community of people here : do you guys and gals still read blogs nowadays?? And how do you receive your feeds of blogs? Is RSS still a thing?? Is it relevant?
( i try to follow your weekly updates and i m looking forward to the next one could even excite one other person )
My girlfriend is remembering me every week and plays the new sequence We enjoyed the last ones, good work greetings Os
Thanks a lot! It's great to read this! You can follow my facebook page or my patreon page to be notified every Friday + other news.
Here's the latest entry in the series : #023 - Uncertainty I don't post every update here so be sure to follow me on either Facebook or Patreon if you don't want to miss an update!
Here's a little update on the Sprite Sequence project : An important storyline came to a close in Sequence #25 - Illusions and Sequence #26 - Future self. After a few weeks of posting in the Jumpman small sub-series (starting here), the story resumes with our character being cast into a new persona : for better or for ill, he's now an actress. His ordeal of loneliness sure is over! Play it now (or whenever)! #27 - Hamlet, Act IV, Scene I If you like the project and would like to support, be sure to visit my Patreon page. Note that for you, indie game developers, I offer in-depth game critics of your projects at higher tiers. You don't have to pledge high amounts forever. Your pledge can be changed anytime.
I've re-designed SpriteSequence's website to make it easier to navigate and easier to get what the project is about. I would love to hear your comments, especially if you can point the bad stuff and can suggest things to make it better yet!
Hi kevintrepanier, We just played "15 days" and were confused about the ending. We reached the last day (which says something like "winter is here") but then we could do nothing. Is there no End or did we miss something. Thanks in advance for the help We enjoy your cool work The website is very beautiful and handy. Greetings Os
Hi Os, I may have neglected to add a "to be continued" at the end of this sequence. But indeed there is no "debriefing" or ending to this one. Only the winter setting in. Just skip to the next sequence to continue! If you have any other comments about the whole series, how you like it, what was interesting and what doesn't work, I'd very much like to hear about it. I'm in the process of compiling the first Chapter into a downloadable desktop game and many changes will take place to make it more coherent so any feedback is useful. Also, thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you like it. I don't receive a lot of feedback so it's heart warming to hear this. I don't post as regularly now so you may want to "follow" me on Patreon to know when I do (no need to pledge). Cheers, Kevin
Hi I think if you could add a "to be continued" this would be great, because it could prevent a lot of confusion. I continued and just finished the second chapter I really like the series, the art is really beautiful and concept with a release every week is awesome. I didn't play for a long time which was just because of stress (haven't been active here too for a long time). But now i will play on, finish whats already there and then wait every Friday for the new one. We will replay chapter one and try to provide you some feedback I think the concept as a whole works pretty fine * In "15 days": I think once figured out what to do the player had just to repeat the same action over and over again. It was still funny, but maybe a bit to long. Maybe increasing the movement speed (and time flow) would help there. I would really like to get a message how good i have done. Did i manage to survive? * there was one chapter where you just had to run through a forest waiting until some time has been gone. I think this took a little to long. * The one where you had to climb the tree was fantastic. I just begann to get frustrated until i got the clue which just felt great. The hint was very cool I really like it when i can see what progress is between to releases, because it shows how great you do. Congrats I m very sad to see that your game doesn't get the attention it deserves. I really hope you can go on, and will try to spread it among my friends. Keep going on! Maybe a possibility for feedback directly on your page would be great (could even just be an email address (something like feedback@spritesequence)) as i couldn't find something ( and i think many people similar to me don't want to use facebook and similar stuff) My girlfriend wanted to write something, too. So ... Girlfriend: I absolutely love your game! The artwork is as simple as wonderful. I really enjoy to play it Maybe some music is missing but after a few minutes into playing it doesn´t bother anymore. I love how the story develops. The one where you have to fight and run to the castle took me longer then I want so say... but was pretty fun My favorite sequences are those where you habe to prepare for Winter. Playing your game is just relaxing und I always want to know what will happen next. The last two sequences in chapter to are quit disturbing. Because there is a big cyclop who do some drugs in your tea and than you drink it anyway. I like them :3 The mini game in space was little bit confusing because it is so off topic. But after the first ``what the..?´´ it is fun too . As Os wrote before, we keep playing and loving your game and try to help to spread it to more people. Please keep working on your fantastic piece of art! I can´t get over how cute it looks Greetings The better half of Os (greetings from Germany Os)
THANK YOU! This is good to hear and will help me improve it. I made the choice to not add music and sound to the game because 1. it would add too much to the weekly work load and 2. I intend for players to play for a minute or two only every week so requiring them to get their headphones on or to stop whatever they are already listening to for such a short time seemed like asking too much. However there will be music and sound in the downloadable desktop games. This will be as minimalist as the art. I'm looking forward to work on this! I see you've pledged on Patreon. Thank you so much for this! Another reason for me to keep going. Kevin P.S. If you like the look of my game, you'll probably enjoy the game Hidden Folks (I have bought it but have yet to try it).
